IM Fahad Rahman, who was eager for a win in the last round match to achieve his first GM norm, missed the target after making the draw despite securing six points from nine matches.
Earlier, IM Fahad defeated GM Maxim Lugovskoy of Russia in the 2nd round, beat GM Puranik Abhimanyu of India in the 6th round and drew with GM Vaibhav Suri of India in the 7th round.
Among the Bangladesh participants, IM Fahad finished 12th in the final ranking. GM Ziaur Rahman became 22nd with 6 points and Tahsin Tajwar Zia became 146th with 2 points.
In the 9th and last round matches, GM Zia drew with IM Muthaiah Al of India while Tahsin beat WFM Mitali Patil of India.
GM Sandipan Chanda of India clinched the title securing 7.5 points while GM Deepan Chakkroborthy of India finished runner-up with same points.
A total of 152 players from 23 countries including 25 Grandmasters, one Woman Grandmaster and 28 International Masters and six Women’s International Masters participated in the GM event.
Marzouq Chowdhury of Bangladesh became 74th with 5 points while Azher Hossain became 105th with 4.5 points out of nine matches in the EKA IIFL Investment Managers 5th Mumbai Junior Under-13 FIDE Rating Chess Tournament.
A total of 198 players from five countries participated in the Junior event where Jubin Jimmy of India became champion securing 7.5 points.
