Fast bowler Nahid Rana took 4 for 26 as Bangladesh restricted Zimbabwe to 170 for 6 in the opening T20I at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Wednesday.

After Bangladesh captain Towhid Hridoy won the toss and chose to field, Zimbabwe reached 54 for 1 in the powerplay.

Brian Bennett led the scoring with 44 from 30 balls, while Tadiwanashe Marumani made 14 from 9 deliveries.

Nahid struck in the fourth over when Marumani was caught at deep square leg attempting a flick. Zimbabwe were 87 for 2 at the halfway stage with Bennett and Sikandar Raza at the crease.

Bennett fell for 44 when he slashed a short, wide delivery from Nahid to deep backward point in the 11th over.

Mohammad Saifuddin then removed Dion Myers and Raza, but Ryan Burl kept Zimbabwe moving with 30 not out from 25 balls.

Nahid returned in the 18th over and dismissed Milton Shumba, who miscued a scoop to short fine leg. Tashinga Musekiwa followed on the next ball, lofting a catch to long-on as Zimbabwe slipped from 139 for 4 to 139 for 6.

The four-wicket haul was Nahid’s first in T20 internationals. He bowled 15 dot balls and finished with an economy rate of 6.50.

Brad Evans added 19 from 10 balls at the end of the innings, but Zimbabwe finished on 170 for 6.

Bangladesh need 171 to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
