Abahani Limited recorded their second win in the ongoing Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division T20 Cricket League Thursday, beating Old DOHS Sports Club by 22 runs in DL Method at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Abahani – asked to bat first after losing the toss – were dismissed for 135/6 in 19 overs. In reply, Old DOHS lost three wickets in 19 overs but managed to score only 113 runs in the rain-curtailed match.
Old DOHS openers – Anisul Islam Emon and Rakin Ahmed – made a good start, scoring 53 runs at the end of nine overs in the opening stand. However, DOHS struggled to keep up with the required run-rate afterwards.
Anisul ended up scoring 20 off 27 balls while Rakin Ahmed posted 43 off 44 deliveries. Mahmudul Hasan Joy, who scored an unbeaten 78 in the first game against Legends of Rupganj, fell prey to Arafat Sunny for 15.
Despite having seven wickets in hand, Old DOHS batsmen looked reluctant to play big shots, and they eventually managed to score 113 for three in 19 overs.
Earlier, Abahani openers – Mohammad Naim and Munim Shahriar – failed to carry on the good start they made. Also, Mushfiqur Rahim, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mosaddek Hossain failed to shine in this game, scoring 6, 11 and 8.
However, Saifuddin hit 40 off 19 balls with two fours and three sixes to help Abahani post 135.
For Old DOHS, Mohaiminul Khan and Rakibul Hasan took two wickets each while Abdur Rashid and Anisul Haque Emon bagged one wicket each.
