Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has been fined 20 percent of his match fee and issued an official reprimand for breaching the ICC code of conduct during his team’s one-wicket victory over England in the ODI tri-series, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Wednesday.
Pakistan secured their place in Saturday’s final after all-rounder Shadab Khan scored an unbeaten 113 on Sunday and shared an 89-run last-wicket partnership with Rauf to stun England.
According to the ICC, Rauf breached Article 2.2 of its code of conduct, which covers conduct contrary to the spirit of the game.
The incident occurred during the 46th over of Pakistan’s run chase when Rauf, standing at the non-striker’s end, appealed for a wide and then exchanged words with England all-rounder Will Jacks.
Rauf raised his bat and continued the argument despite warnings from umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid. He also brushed past the umpire while walking towards Jacks.
The disciplinary action resulted in one demerit point being added to Rauf’s record. It was his third offence within 24 months, taking his total to five points.
Meanwhile, England was fined 15 percent of its match fee for maintaining a bowling rate three overs below the required target.
England’s hopes of reaching the final ended after Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by eight wickets on Tuesday. England will face Sri Lanka in the final league match on Thursday, seeking a consolation victory.
