National coloured all-rounder of Sheikh Jamal Nasir Hossain played the key role in Sheikh Jamal’s victory scoring 45 runs and scalping three wickets for 24 runs in 10 overs.
For the all-round show, Nasir Hossain was adjudged man of the match.
In the day’s vital match to assure the super league berth, Sheikh Jamal won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Going to bat first, Abahani suffered batting collapse losing top four wickets in just 14 runs.
Right-arm off-spinner Nasir bagged three of four Abahani’s first wickets. Jahurul Islam (9), Soumya Sarkar (1), Jahid Javed (3) and Najmul Islam Shanto (0) were poor against the bowling attack of Sheikh Jamal. Najmul suffered a golden duck against Nasir’s right-arm off-spin.
However, in the fifth wicket stand, Mohammad Mithun and Mosaddek Hossain added 60 runs to recover the initial damage. Mithun fell for 33 while Mosaddek hit his third ton in List-A cricket.
Along with Mithun and Mosaddek, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Abdullah Al Mamun scored 20 and 26 for Abahani to post a total of 211 for nine wickets in 50 overs. Mosaddek was the top-scorer for them hitting 101 with six fours and three sixes.
For Sheikh Jamal, Nasir bagged three wickets and Elias Sunny took two.
In reply, Sheikh Jamal chased the target in 48.5 overs scoring 215 runs for the loss of seven wickets to seal the match by three wickets.
Sheikh Jamal lost their first two wickets in just 12 runs. However, Imtiaz Hossain and Anustup Majumdar were cool enough to guide the team towards the win as they hit 30 and 56 respectively.
Captain of Sheikh Jamal Nurul Hasan, who has been superb with the bat in the league so far, suffered a golden duck in this match. But Nasir and Tanbir Hayder worked hard to win the game. While Nasir posted 45, Tanbir scored unbeaten 39.
Eventually, they ended the game in 48.5 overs with three wickets in hand.
With this win, Sheikh Jamal completed 12 points in 11 rounds and marched to the Super League as the fifth team. Abahnai has already ensured their place in the Super League earlier.
Legends of Rupganj beat Uttara Sporting Club by a big margin of nine wickets to maintain their supremacy in the league.
Sent in to bat first, Uttara SC were restricted to 180 in eight wickets in 50 overs. Anisul Islam Emon was the best batsman of Uttara hitting 55. Along with him, Shahnaj Ahmed (27), Minhajul Abedin (37) and Shakhir Hossain (33) were the other batsmen to post some runs on the board.
For Rupganj, Nabil Samad took three wickets while Rishi Dhawan bagged two.
In reply, Mehedi Maruf and Mohammad Naim hit 62 and 63 runs respectively to seal the game. Mominul Haque was unbeaten on 47. Finally, Rupganj scored 181 for one wicket in 40.4 overs.
It was Rupganj’s10th win in 11 matches of the league while Uttara suffered the 11th loss.
In another match in Fatullah, Brothers Union beat Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club by one wicket in the last over with just one ball remaining.
Prime Doleshwar batted first in the match after losing the toss and posted a challenging total of 250 for five wickets in 50 overs with the help of Marshall Ayub (50), Taibur Rahman (70), Farhad Hossain (40) and Mahmudul Hasan (39).
For Brothers, Bishawnath Halder bagged two wickets while Mohammad Shahzada, Sharifullah and Yasir Ali took one wicket each.
I reply, Brothers chased the target in 49.5 overs with the help of Fazle Mahmud (74), Mizanur Rahman (42), Sharifullah (41) and Mohammad Shahzada (29).
It was Brother’s third win in the league while Prime Doleshwar experienced the fourth loss.
