President of Asian Chess Federation His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nehyan was present the function as the guest of honour while Dr. Benazir Ahmed, President of Bangladesh Chess Federation, President of South Asian Chess Council and Inspector General of Bangladesh Police was also present as special guest.
General Secretary of Asisn Chess Federation Hisham Al Tahir joined the function through video conference.
Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat, Chairman of Canadian University, Bangladesh and Vice President of Bangladesh Chess Federation presided over the ceremony.
A documentary film on Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's life and leadership was also displayed at the function.
Addressing the function the State Minister for Youth and Sports said, Bangladesh under the dynamic leadership of Sheikh Hasina created a rare example in the world facing Coronavirus successfully and made Bangladesh a role model of development.
Prasing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for making huge development in the country's sports at grassroot level, the minister finally assured the Chess Federation to provide a permanent land for them very soon.
Grand Master Megaranto Susanto of Indonesia emerged unbeaten champion in the Joytu Sheikh Hasina International Online Chess Tournament' 2020 securing seven points from nine-round Swiss League basis competition that concluded on Saturday.
On completion of the nine-round competition last evening, three players have secured seven points each, but in the tie breaker Susanto clinched the title of the first ever meet, arranged on the occasion of the 74th birthday of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He received prize money of US dollar 1200.
The two other players---Indian GM SL Narayan and Iranian GM M Amin Tabatabaei, who also bagged seven points each, finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the tie breaker to earn prize money of US dollar 800 and 500 respectively.
Among the Bangladeshi players, promising Fide Master Subroto Biswas was placed 12th securing six points while another Bangladeshi Fide Master Mohammad Javed was placed 14th, also collecting six points.
Three Bangladeshi GM even failed to manage a seat in the top 15 places of the meet, sponsored by Canadian University, Bangladesh, organised by South Asian Chess Council, associated by Golden Sporting Club.
Five players earned 6.5 points each. Their positions are: 4th-GM Nguyen Ngoc Truong of Vietnam, 5th-GM Diptayan Ghosh of India, 6th-GM D Gukesh of India, 7th-R. R. Laxman of India and 8th – Jhon Paul Gomes of Philippines.
Six players earned 6 points each. Their positions are: 9th-IM Priasmoro Novendra of Indonesia, 10th- GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly of India, 11th- Volkov Sergey of Russia, 12th –FM Subrota Biswas of Bangladesh Navy, 13th- Mohammad Nubairshah Shaikh of India and FM Mohammad Javed of Bangladesh Navy.
Three players of Bangladesh Navy achieved the top three positions among Bangladeshi players. They are: FM Subrata became 1st and FM Mohammad Javed 2nd and IM Abu Sufian Shakil became 3rd.
The 7th to 9th rounds games were held on the Last day of the three-day meet on Saturday in the online chess platform.
