The last time cricket was part of SA Games was back in 2010. Since then, the authorities hosted the biggest sporting event in South Asia without the most popular sport of the region.
“We got the opportunity to play in the SA Games for the first time. We’re eager to make this event memorable, and to do so, we’ve to make a good start to the event,” Jahanara Alam, one of the members of Bangladesh team, told the media on Friday before flying to Nepal.
The last time when cricket was played in SA Games, Bangladesh Men’s team won a Gold medal. Jahanara said they are aiming for the same result in this year’s SA Games.
“We’ve to make a good start to the competition. Our main goal in the event is to win the Gold medal,” Jahanara told the media.
Seven teams will be fighting in women’s cricket of SA Games. Hosts Nepal, India, Sri Lanka and Bhutan will play in Group A while Bangladesh, Pakistan and Maldives in Group B.
The two top teams of each group will be promoted to the semifinals of the event. The final will take the place on December 9.
