Opener Shadman Islam is not fit to bat in Bangladesh's first innings of the second Test against West Indies after injuring his left ankle while fielding on Friday, team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said.
"At the moment, he is not in a condition to bat in the first innings," Bayjedul said in a video message issued by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Shadman, who scored a century in the first Test in Mirpur, was carried off on a stretcher after twisting his ankle while stopping a boundary on the second morning. He was later taken to hospital.
The BCB's medical department had said earlier on Friday that he had sprained his left ankle and would have an MRI scan.
"We have kept him under observation, and his scan has also been done. The report will be available tomorrow. After that, we will be able to give details on the type of injury and how long it may take to recover," Bayjedul said in the evening.
Bangladesh cannot bring in a replacement batter if Shadman is unable to play.
Nayeem Hasan, who batted at No. 8 in the first Test, opened in Shadman's place and was out for five off six balls.
Bangladesh were 88 for three at stumps on the second day, in reply to West Indies' 356.
