T20 consultant Sridharan Sriram has said the Bangladesh team will do better in the upcoming World Cup, and that the team has the required weapons to do well.
Ahead of the New Zealand clash in the ongoing Tri-Series, which will take place on Wednesday at 8 am (Bangladesh time), Sridharan also said that the supporters and media should keep patience and support the team.
Bangladesh have been going through a prolonged bad patch in T20Is. They also lost the first two matches of the Tri-Series against Pakistan and New Zealand. In both matches, the batters failed to deliver.
“I would like to request all supporters and media to stand by us,” Sridharan said on Tuesday. “It is a matter of the country, a matter of everyone's emotions. I can confirm, the boys are trying their best to bring glory to the country. One of our values in this team is to make Bangladesh proud and bring victory to the fans.”
After the Tri-Series, Bangladesh will travel to Australia where the T20 World Cup will take place. Bangladeshi fans are doubtful about a good result in the World Cup. But Sridharan believes Bangladesh are on a good track and they are close to delivering a good result.
“I want to be patient,” he added. “We have got a basic squad that will do well in the future. We are also waiting for the World Cup. We will get the answer to everything, we will fix the team as well. The brand of cricket we will play in the World Cup, we will surely give pride to Bangladesh.”
Sridharan took up the role of the T20 consultant right before the last Asia Cup played in the UAE. But the team failed to bring up an immediate good result.
The former Indian cricketer is contracted with the BCB till the T20 World Cup. If the team can produce a good result, the board might extend the contract with him. But for now, Sridharan is only looking forward to having some good cricket in the World Cup.
