T20 WC: Sri Lanka’s Hasaranga hits hat-trick against South Africa

Sri Lankan leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva hit a hattrick against South Africa in the Super 12 stage of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Sharjah on Saturday.

It was the 2nd hat-trick in the ongoing T20 World Cup and the 3rd hat-trick in the T20 World Cup history and the overall 23rd hat-trick in the T20 International Cricket.

Ireland pacer Curtis Camphen made the maiden hat-trick in the current T20 World Cup against the Netherlands in Abu Dhabi on October 18.

But, Australian speed star Brett Lee scored the first hat-trick in the T20 World Cup history in the inaugural meet against Bangladesh in Cape Town in 2007.

Hasaranga of Sri Lanka earned the feat claiming three South African wickets in three consecutive balls of two overs, but failed to escape the defeat.

He grabbed the first wicket bowling out Aiden Markram (19) in the last ball of the 15th over, grabbed his 2nd wicket of captain Temba Bavuma (46) aided by a Nissanka catch in the first ball of the 18th overs and completed his hat-trick taking the wicket of Dwaine Pretorius for a duck, off a Rajapaksa catch, in the 2nd delivery of the 18th over, leaving South Korean total 112 for 6.
