After Liton Das, off-spinner Nayeem Hasan has also been ruled out of Kolkata Test after sustaining a blow on his head during his 28-ball stay in the middle.
Bangladesh included Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul as the concussion replacements of Liton and Nayeem respectively. While Miraz will only be allowed to bat, Taijul will be allowed to bowl and bat.
This is the first time in history when a team made more than one concussion replacements in a single international match.
In July this year, ICC agreed to allow concussion substitute in all form of international cricket from August 1, with the substitute having to be a ‘like-to-like player’.
The first such substitute was used during the second Test of Ashes 2019 when Jofra Archer hit Steve Smith on his head. Smith failed to continue batting, and Australia fielded Marnus Labuschagne as the concussion replacement of Smith.
