Bangladesh lost the first Test by an innings and 52 runs. Despite the loss, Tamim, Mahmudullah and Soumya headlined with their respective tons. While Tamim (126) struck the three-digit innings in the first innings, Mahmudullah (146) and Soumy (149) hit centuries in the second innings.
With 126 and 74 in two successive innings, Tamim stepped up 11 places to secure his name at number 25 in the list of best Test batsmen and he also achieved 626 rating points. And thus, he has surpassed Shakib Al Hasan to become the best Test batsman of the country. Prior to the first Test of the ongoing series, Tamim was at 36.
Mahmudullah jumped to the position of 40 from 52 with his career-best knock of 146. Soumya, the left-hander, also recorded his best innings of career accumulating 149 in the second innings of the first Test to see his name at number 67 from 92.
On the other hand, Kane Williamson, the Kiwi captain, acquired career-best rating point of 915 with his unbeaten knock of 200 in the only innings of New Zealand in Hamilton.
Along with them, Tom Latham (11 from 12), Jeet Raval (33 from 38), Colin de Grandhomme (60 to 66) saw improvement in the latest ICC Rankings.
