After the ODI and T20I series, Bangladesh and Ireland are set to lock horns in a one-off Test, starting on Tuesday in Dhaka.
Bangladesh's main pacer, Taskin Ahmed, has been ruled out of this Test with a grade 2 side strain, while Tamim Iqbal's participation remains uncertain due to family reasons.
This Test will mark the first Test between the hosts and Ireland. It is evident that the tourists are far behind Bangladesh in terms of experience in this format. While Bangladesh are set to play their 137th Test, it is only the fourth Test for the Irish.
Therefore, it is no wonder that Ireland has eight players in their squad who are yet to receive the Test cap, while three players have never played even a first-class match.
Despite the difference between the two teams, Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz said they are not taking Ireland lightly.
“We are confident in playing well against them, as they are very confident as well. We respect them, and we will definitely give our best,” Mehidy told the media on Monday.
In contrast, the Ireland captain, Andy Balbirnie, said they are taking this Test as a big challenge for them.
“We know how good Bangladesh is in this venue, so it will be a tough match for us,” he said on Monday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Before the Test, Bangladesh won both the T20I and ODI series, where Ireland offered only a small resistance to the Tigers. The tourists have won only one T20I.
