Hosts Bangladesh U-19 team took a 1-0 lead in the five-match Youth ODI series against the touring Afghanistan U-19 team, with a 16-run win in the opening match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Friday.
The remaining matches of the series will be held on September 12, 14, 17 and 19 and the lone Test between the two sides will take place at the same venue on September 22.
In Friday's match, Bangladesh chose to bat first after winning the toss and managed to post 154/10 in 38.3 overs.
After the departure of the top two batsmen for 12 runs, Aich Mollah and captain Meherob Hossain added 60 runs to the board.
For Bangladesh, Meherob scored the highest 49 runs off 57 balls, with three fours and two sixes; Aich Mollah scored 22 runs with two boundaries. Opener Prantik Nowrose Nabil hit 42 off 78 balls, with three fours.
Bilal Sami claimed four wickets for 21 runs, Shahidullah Hasani grabbed three wickets for 38 runs, and Izharulhaq Neveed took two wickets for 27 runs.
Chasing 155 runs, the Afghanistan U-19 team were bundled out for 138 runs in 48.2 overs, with opener Sulaiman Safi scoring the highest 48 runs off 92 deliveries.
Also, Nangeyalia Kharote (26), Ijaz Ahmed (18) and Izharulhaq Naveed (11) were the other main run-scorers for the visitors.
Ripon Mondol took four wickets for 20 runs; Ashikur Zaman and Naimur Rahman took two wickets each conceding 25 and 31 runs.
