When Apple introduced the ninth generation of the iPad on 14th September 2021, anxious consumers began to anticipate where the device is a value-for-money product. The last iPad, released just a year ago, was an excellent entry-level tablet by any measure. In addition to that, the iPad mini 6 had debuted and was capturing all the news. The 10.2-inch screen is more than enough for the majority of activities. In direct contrast to an 11 inch iPad Pro, the display seems much smaller. This is because the 10.2in iPad utilizes a 4:3 aspect ratio, but the iPad Pro employs a 4.3:3 aspect ratio. However, the 10.2-inch proportions strike a reasonable balance between size and handling - a bigger model would often be awkward.

Cameras

The back camera remains a mess, sporting the same 8MP single-lens camera with a /2.4 aperture seen on the original iPad for years. This is not restricted to FaceTime; it works as well with Zoom, Teams, and TikTok. Due to Centre Stage, the iPad will always frame the video conference in such a manner that if users move, the camera will follow them, and if another party joins the conversation, the frame will broaden to accommodate them.

Moreover, an ultra-wide-angle lens expands the recording capabilities for both films and selfies.  The entire 122 degrees viewing angle is accessible only for photographs; for movies, the viewing angle is reduced for technological reasons.

Apple enhanced the resolution of the FaceTime front-facing camera significantly. In comparison to the 2020 model, the resolution jumps from 1.2MP to 12MP, enabling much improved selfies and high-definition films. Videos may now be recorded at up to 1080p quality, up from 720p on the predecessor. Unfortunately, the new front camera, like the previous model's, provides pictures that appear a little hazy in low light. But it is still a significant improvement over the previous model.

Performance

We addressed the CPU in relation to the camera module before, but there is much more to say. The new iPad has an A13 processor, which was first introduced in the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro. Two high-performance and four high-efficiency cores contribute to the system's overall performance.

Among the other benefits of the A13 is the enhanced neural engine, which Apple claims is around 20% quicker than the one in the A12 processor.

In terms of visuals, we saw an improvement as well. We benchmarked the graphics card's performance with GF GFXBench. The new iPad earned 10,873 points, a little increase above its predecessor's score of 9,119 points. The 2019 model is much behind the competition, scoring only 3,848 points in this test.

Battery and Charging

The battery capacity remains 8557 mAh, which is actually more than the 7732 mAh of the 11in iPad Pro. The new iPad's battery life is strength; in our online browsing test, it lasted around 13 hours which is around 29 minutes longer than its predecessor. In our second test, the iPad, like its predecessor, lasted over 6 hours while viewing a film at maximum brightness.

The iPad, like its predecessor, has a 20W USB-C power adapter. However, Apple has increased its charging speed in comparison to its predecessor. The previous iPad could only charge 15% in half an hour on the fast-supplied power source; now, it can charge 20% in half an hour. Rather than four hours and twenty-one minutes, the smartphone is completely charged after almost three hours.

Price of iPad 9th Gen in Bangladesh

None of the versions of the latest iPad is available in Bangladesh right now. However, users can pre-book the iPads within the price range of BDT 40,000 to 50,000.

Verdict

The iPad 9th generation appeared as one of the highly recommended tablets in 2021. It gives the best price-performance ratio among all iPads. When you compare the price of the entry-level iPad to the iPad Air, questions may arise that if the more contemporary design and improved cameras are really worth the additional money. However, for residential users, the cheaper option is worth considering because of its smaller weight, compact size, and more contemporary appearance.
