US President Donald Trump gave artificial intelligence a new name during his address to world leaders at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, calling it “Super Intelligence” or “SI.”
“The use of the word artificial makes it sound fake,” Trump said. “It's not fake, it's actually amazing. But we have to be careful.”
“Welcome to the new world of super intelligence - SI,” he added.
Trump has previously said that the country that wins the artificial intelligence race will prevail and has strongly opposed greater regulation of the technology.
His remarks put him at odds with many others at the UN, where governments are debating how to regulate AI and address its rapidly developing risks and opportunities.
The speech also highlighted a broader challenge for policymakers: whether the slow pace of international diplomacy can keep up with the rapid development of artificial intelligence.
