Democratic House leader Hakeem Jeffries has set a new record for the longest "magic minute" speech in U.S. history.
Speaking for over eight and a half hours, he surpassed the previous record held by Republican Kevin McCarthy since 2021.
As he approached the 520th minute, Jeffries hinted that his speech was nearing its conclusion, which prompted members of his party to shout, "take your sweet time," a phrase he has echoed several times throughout his address.
During the speech, Jeffries criticized the spending bill, reviewed amendments proposed by other party members, shared stories about his parents and childhood, and quoted the Bible.
Although he appears tired, he continues to speak. His lengthy speech has postponed the vote on Trump’s spending bill.
