India has pledged half-a-million dollars to the United Nations to fight new-age terrorism.
"Internet and social media platforms have turned into potent instruments in the toolkit of terrorist and militant groups for spreading propaganda, radicalisation and conspiracy theories aimed at destabilising societies,” Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said on Saturday.

"India will be making a voluntary contribution of half-a-million dollars to the UN Trust Fund for Counter Terrorism this year to augment the efforts of UNOCT in providing capacity-building support to member states in preventing and countering the threat of terrorism," he said.
Jaishankar was addressing a special two-day meeting of the UN Counter Terrorism Committee in the Indian capital. The first session was held in Mumbai on Friday.
This is for the first time that India is hosting such a meeting of the UN Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Committee. The theme for this year is ''Countering The Use of New and Emerging Technologies for Terrorist Purposes'.
