On April 9, 2025, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced that his country would provide temporary shelter to Palestinian medical evacuees and children who have lost their parents. He stated, "We are ready to evacuate those who are injured or traumatized, and orphans, if they want to be evacuated to Indonesia. We are prepared to send planes to transport them."

Subianto mentioned that the first group, consisting of approximately 1,000 individuals, would be welcomed into Indonesia until they recover and it is safe for them to return to Gaza. He emphasized that the evacuation is not for permanent resettlement.

The Indonesian leader made this announcement before departing for Abu Dhabi, where he will begin a weeklong diplomatic tour of the Middle East, which includes stops in Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, and Jordan. He plans to discuss evacuation arrangements with those nations, many of which have also accepted Palestinians for humanitarian purposes.

Subianto added that other countries have urged Indonesia to take a more active role in seeking a resolution to the conflict. As the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation, Indonesia has been a staunch supporter of Palestine for many years. "This is a complicated situation; it’s not easy, but it motivates the Indonesian government to take a more active role," he concluded.
