US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Washington will lift sanctions imposed on Turkey over its purchase of Russia's S-400 missile defence system, a move that could help Ankara rejoin the F-35 fighter jet programme.
Speaking after talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara during the NATO summit, Trump said Cabinet officials were working on removing the sanctions under the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act. He also said selling F-35 jets to Turkey was "certainly something we will consider." Turkey was removed from the programme in 2019 after buying the Russian system.
