U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he intends to declare the Strait of Hormuz a United States territory in the near future.
Addressing a rally in Garden City, New York, Trump linked the move to the ongoing geopolitical conflict with Iran. "After we finish defeating Iran — which is being very badly defeated — pretty soon I'll be declaring the Hormuz Strait a territory of the United States," he said.
The statement follows a period of heightened regional volatility, characterized by increased drone activity and military confrontations in the Middle East.
