Bangladesh to receive 250 ventilators from India tonight
Bangladesh will receive 250 ventilators coming from New Delhi tonight (Saturday night) amid increased hospitalization of Covid-19 patients across the country.Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen will receive the ventilators at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 8.30 pm.

PCR machine, 8 ventilators lying unused for 10 months in Sirajganj
A Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machine used to detect coronavirus and other complicated diseases, and eight ventilators are lying packed at Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College in Sirajganj though the country’s health sector is struggling to tackle the coronavirus pandemic with its limited resources.
The medical college authorities have sought a new PCR machine from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) even though the previous machine and ventilators bought eight months back remained unpacked, said Project Director of Dr Krishna Kumar Pal.
Last year, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) launched an investigation into the irregularities in purchasing the medical equipment for the medical college spending nearly Tk 250 crore.
Although the ACC is yet to conclude its probe but it has no objection to using the PCR machines and ventilators, Dr Krishna said quoting the investigation officer of the ACC.

Electronics manufacturing company Minister to make ventilators
Bangladeshi electronics manufacturing company Minster has taken an initiative to make ventilators in the country due to growing demand following coronavirus outbreak .
The worldwide coronavirus pandemic caused a huge crisis of ventilators or oxygen machines which is extremely essentials for saving lives.
The Ministry of ICT, apex trade body FBCCI, some public-private hospitals and biomedical engineers from BUET are assisting Minister in the process of making ventilators.
Minster Hi-Tech Park Electronics Limited's experienced engineers along with research and development (R&D) team are in overall charge of the process, said a media release on Sunday.
State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak said, "With the help of the world-renowned medical device manufacturer, Medtronic, several local electronics manufacturers including Minster have come forward to produce ventilators. We are extremely optimistic that ventilators will be produced within the shortest time in our country.”
President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Sheikh Fazle Fahim said the Bangladeshi company Minster Hi-Tech Park Electronics Limited has developed a prototype of ventilator which, after the permission of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and they will start production of it in full.
