With the monsoon being fairly active over Bangladesh and weak to moderate elsewhere over North Bay, the weather department has predicted showers in parts of Bangladesh in next 24 hours commencing 9am on Monday. “Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions; at many places over Dhaka division and at a few places over Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country,” the department said in its bulletin. Day temperatures may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, it added. The highest temperature was recorded at 36.2 degrees Celsius in Mongla of Khulna division, while the lowest temperature was recorded at 23.5 degree Celcius in Netrokona of Mymensingh division. The axis of monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across central part of Bangladesh. One of its associated troughs extends upto Northwest Bay, as per the bulletin.

Showers with lightning flashes are likely to persist over the country in 24 hours commencing 9 am on Monday, says the Met office. “Rain or thunder showers with lightning flashes and temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at a few places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka and Barishal divisions,” said a bulletin of Bangladesh Meteorological Department. Day and night temperature may rise slightly over the country, it added. The maximum rainfall in the country was recorded at 50 mm at Chattogram in 24 hours until 9 am on Monday . Meanwhile, the trough of Low extended from Bihar to North Bay across West Bengal and Southern part of Bangladesh persists.

According to the bulletin, the trough of Westerly low lies over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and adjoining area. Seasonal low lies over South Bay, it added.
