Samsung Galaxy M33 5G Review: Does it offer value for money?

Key Specifications of Samsung Galaxy M33 5G
Design and Build Quality
Even though the phone isn’t released yet, the specifications and details about the device are already out. The M series phones have always sported an all-plastic design with a glass front. The M33 5G is also no different.
The back of the device has a refractive matte finish. It helps to make the device look more premium. The device is on the heavier side with 198 g weight. Much of it is attributed to the 6000 mAh battery which is one of the highest in its segment.

The usual port selection is all present here. The power button situated at the right will double as the fingerprint scanner. Unlike the mid-range M53 slated to launch around the same time, the M33 does retain the 3.5 mm headphone jack. Samsung claims the choice was made to favor the gaming experience in the device.
There is a dedicated micro SDXC along with the dual sim setup on the left of the device. Samsung included a secondary noise cancellation mic on the top which would help to improve the call quality of the device.
Overall, the Galaxy M33 5G feels much like its predecessors in terms of build quality and design.

Display
The display is somewhat one of the weak points of the Galaxy M33 5G. It can’t exactly be called a weak point thanks to the bizarre choices of display tech integration. Let's clarify.
Samsung is a well-established panel maker with their Super AMOLED and AMOLED panels being the industry standards. However, Samsung went with a TFT panel for the M33 5G which in itself is an outdated display tech. What’s surprising is that Samsung also integrated a 120 Hz refresh rate on the TFT panel.
Speaking of the quality of the display itself, it is average at best. Colors aren’t as bright and crisp as AMOLED or even IPS LCDs. There are also issues with color shifts and viewing angles. but the touch response of the panel is super-fast thanks to the 120 Hz refresh rate. Samsung could have included an IPS LCD but TFT is what the users will be getting.

Camera
The M series phones have always been big on the camera, at least compared to their price point. Unlike others in this price bracket, Samsung has included a quad-camera setup and the lens specs are pretty impressive.
The main lens here is a 50 MP one with an f/1.8 aperture. There is also a 5 MP ultrawide shooter along with 2 MP macro and depth sensors. The front features an 8 MP selfie shooter as well. Speaking of the performance of the camera, the main lens and the wide-angle lens definitely shines. The colors and details look amazing in direct sunlight and bright conditions. However, there is noticeable noise and grains in indoor lighting. The subject also tends to become a bit soft with reduced edge detection.
Users will get massive improvements in videography. The Galaxy M33 will support up to 4K at 30 fps up from the 1080P on the previous gen. Overall, the camera setup seems to be on par if not better considering the price.

Processor and Performance
Whether Samsung will be using an Exynos or MediaTek for the Galaxy M33 5G is not known exactly for sure. However, rumors suggest that the device may come with Exynos 1280 chipset based on a 5 Nm architecture.
The octa-core Exynos processor is known to be power efficient and performance-oriented. As a result, Samsung is already branding the device as an entry-level gaming phone. The device is well equipped to handle daily tasks like browsing the web or social media. Users will be able to play graphic-intensive games at medium settings without compromising on performance. However, the device gets heated quite easily but there aren’t any thermal throttling issues.
The device will also come with Android 12 on top of the One UI 4.1 OS.

Battery and Charge Time
As mentioned before, the battery is easily one of the strongest selling points of the device. Without compromising much on the thickness and form factor, Samsung has been able to fit in a 6000 mAh battery on a device with an efficient processor. Users can expect to get around 8 to 10 hours of continued usage and at least 6 hours of heavy gaming. There is also a 25W fast charger included in the box.
Price of Samsung Galaxy M33 5G in Bangladesh
The Samsung Galaxy M33 5G has not yet been officially launched in Bangladesh. The speculative price in the Indian market puts a 17,999 Rs tag on the device which roughly translates to 20,382 BDT ( 1 INR = 1.13 BDT ). However, the price might differ depending on supply, tax, and company sales policies.
Verdict
The Samsung Galaxy M33 5G doesn’t bring anything new to the table. Rather it is another incremental update in the entry-level segment. The camera and the battery are the strongest suit of the device and may well be its sales determinant. But the display is where the device falls short. In hindsight, the device will be perfect for those looking for a budget gaming phone with long reliability.
