A Mymensingh court on Thursday sentenced  two people to death for killing a class X student in 2021. Judge of  Mymensingh Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1 Md Shamsuddin handed down the judgment. The condemned convicts are—Enamul Haque and Nazmul Haque of Sadar upazila. Of them, Enamul was tried in absentia. The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each. Besides, the court also sentenced two more people—Ziaul Haque and Julhas Uddin –to seven years in jail and fined Tk 20,000, each, in default to suffer six month s more in jail. According to the prosecution, Saikat Hasan Akash, a class X student of Antadhar High School in Sadar upazila , had developed a love affair with his classmate Jesmin Akter. On May 19, 2021, Akash went to the house of Jesmin after receiving her phone call and since then he remained missing. Later, Akash’s decomposed body was found in a bamboo bush near the house of Jesmin on May 21, 2021. Akram Hossain, father of Akash, filed a case with Kotwali Police Station on May 22. Police submitted chargesheet against four people in the case.

A Sylhet court on Wednesday sentenced eight people to death and seven others to life term imprisonment for killing a schoolboy in Biswanath upazila in 2021.   Judge Syeda Amina Farhin of  Sylhet Additional Session Judge Court-1 handed down the punishment.   The court also sentenced 17 others accused to two years of jail each.   The condemned convicts are Bangladeshi expatriate in UK Saiful Alam, Nazrul, Sadrul, Siraj, Jamal, Shahin, Abdul Jalil and Anwar while the lifers are Elias, Abdun Nur, Joynal, Ashique, Askir, Farid and Akbar.   According to the prosecution, Saiful Alam of Chaitannagar village in Biswanath Upazila had an enmity with Najir Uddin over digging the soil of a land owned by Najir.    An altercation ensued between them when Saiful tried to fill the road with the soil from the land of Najir on May 1, 2021.   Five arrested over Rangpur violence   When Najir along with his cousin Manik and his nephew Sumel Mia, 18, a class 10 student obstructed him Saiful opened fire on them, leaving Sumel dead on the spot and four others injured with bullets.   Ibrahim Ali Sijil, cousin of Sumel, filed a case against 27 people with Biswanath Police Station. Rama Prosad Chakraborty, then officer-in-charge of Biswanath Police Station, submitted a chargesheet against 32 people.   On July 13, police produced the 30 accused before the court while another accused identified as Mamunur Rashid tried in absentia.

A tribunal here on Tuesday sentenced two people to death for killing an eighth grader after kidnapping him in Jajira upazila of Shariatpur district in 2020. The condemned convicts were Imran Morol and Sakib Babu. Also read:Bhola double murder: 2 sentenced to death The tribunal also acquitted four accused -Aktar Madbor, Sajib Majhi, Mohsin Hawlader, and Swapa Hawlader. Shariatpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Abdus Salam Khan pronounced the judgment with the convicts in the dock. Both the defense and prosecution have expressed dissatisfaction over the judgment saying they will move to the higher court to get justice.   According to the case statement, local youths kidnapped  Shakil Madbor and demanded Tk 5 lakh as ransom money. They later killed him on June 25, 2020 and buried the body near a pillar of Padma Bridge at Jajira end. The victim’s father, Salam Madbor, lodged a complaint with Jajira police station. Based on Sakib’s information, police recovered the body of Shakil and a murder case was filed at Jajira Police Station accusing seven people.
