Police constable suspended over beating street child in CTG
Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) suspended a police constable for allegedly beating up a street child for stealing a gas lighter on Sunday (June 11, 2023).
The suspended police was identified as Md Shawkat, a constable of CMP traffic division.
The incident took place around 11 am on Sunday (June 11) at a shop near the police box in Tiger Pass area under Kotwali police station of the city.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy came to know about the incident after a 30-second video footage of the incident went viral on social media. Later, the CMP commissioner ordered the suspension of the policeman.
Earlier, in the video that went viral on social media, that constable Shawkat was seen entering the shop and slapping the child randomly. At that time, he had a cigarette in his mouth.

Journalist Abu Sayed Mohammad Tamanna told UNB, "I saw a teenager being beaten up by a policeman for stealing a gas light. If I hadn't protested, he would have killed the boy. The police should be humane.”

CMP to provide security to Nagad customer’s financial transactions
Nagad, an arm of Bangladesh Postal Department recently organized an event with Chattagram Metropolitan Police (CMP) to discuss about the customer’s financial security in the mobile financial sector.
The event was arranged by the organisation’s External Affairs Division at at CMP’s Multipurpose Hall at Dampara Police Lines .
CMP’s Commissioner Mr Saleh Mohammed Tanvir, PPM (Service) graced the event as chief guest. Besides, Additional Police Commissioner of CMP Md. Shamsul Alam and Nagad’s Executive Director Niaz Morshed Elite, Chief External Affairs Officer Lt. Col Md. Kousar Soukat Ali (retd), Head of Stakeholder Management Md. Mahbub Alam, PPM, DIG (retd), Chief Corporate Governance Officer M. Nurul Alam, Chief Public Affairs Officer Mohammad Solaiman and others attended the event.

CMP Commissioner Mr Saleh Mohammed Tanvir said, “Through this event, Nagad has changed our perception about the mobile financial services. I hope that all the CMP member will open Nagad account and avail its services.”
He also said that from now on CMP will give security to the Nagad distributors financial transactions and the two organisations, will work cooperate to serve the country.
Niaz Morshed Elite, Executive Director of Nagad said, Nagad has played an important role in the financial sector to build Digital Bangladesh and now it will lead in building a developed and smart nation.

The program was moderated by Muhammad Zahidul Islam, Head of Public Communications of Nagad.
Nagad recently organized a similar event with Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to discuss the customer's transactional security in the mobile financial sector.
Besides, in collaboration with Bangladesh Police, Nagad has already held numerous seminars, including awareness campaigns among the Nagad Uddokta's on money laundering, terrorism financing and fraudulent and suspicious transactions in various regions of the country.

Charges pressed against 6 CMP cops in kidnap for ransom case
Charges have been pressed against six members of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) over kidnapping a man to demand ransom money.
Chattogram Senior Judicial magistrate Najmun Nahar accepted the charge sheet submitted by police on Sunday and granted bail to the six accused until the trial in the case begins on January 26, said Inspector Humayun Kabir of Chattogram district police.
Earlier on December 4, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), submitted the charge sheet against the six accused.

The accused are, Constable Morshed Billah, bodyguard of CMP commissioner, Constable Md Masud, bodyguard of CMP Deputy Commissioner (Detective branch), Constable Shakil Khan and Eskandor deployed at Dampara Reserve Force Office, Constable Monirul Islam, computer operator of Assitant police Commissiner’s Karnaphuli office, Constable Abdul Nabi from Detective Branch (North).
According to the case, on February 3 midnight, eight youths on four motorcycles abducted a man named Abdul Mannan from Purbo Bairag village under Anwara police station.
Thecyouths identified themselves as police and one of them was wearing a jacket with DB (Detective Branch) written on it.
They took Mannan to the Bhellapara area in Patia and demanded Tk 10 lakh to acquit him from the many cases filed against his name at the police station.

Mannan was released later after he paid them Tk 1,80,000.
Mannan heard the name of Morshed from their conversation and filed a case in this regard on February 7 at Anwara police station.
Finding proof of those accused constables being involved in the incident CMP authority filed a departmental case after suspending them.
