Dua mahfil for Muhith held in the city
A dua mahfil for salvation of the departed soul of former Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith was held at Gulshan(Azad) mosque in the city on Saturday.
The dua mahfil was held after Asr prayer.
Cabinet members, parliament members, relatives, friends, colleagues and well-wishers of the departed attended the dua mahfil.

M Syeduzzaman, former Finance and Planning Minister, former secretary M Mokammel Haque, Muhith’s younger brother Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Planning Minister Abdul Mannan and others spoke in honour of the deceased.
Muhith was a language movement veteran and valiant freedom fighter. He was elected Member of Parliament from Sylhet-1 constituency.
He, as finance minister of the Awami League government, presented the budget in parliament for 10 years at a stretch.
It was during his tenure that the size of the budget expanded.

Muhith passed away in the wee hours April 30 in Dhaka after a prolonged illness at age of 88. He was laid to rest in his family graveyard at Rainagar in Sylhet.
He left behind his wife Sabia Muhith, daughter Samina, sons Shahed and Samir, and many family members, friends and well-wishers.

Hasina condoles Muhith's demise
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the demise of former Finance Minister and language veteran Abul Maal Abdul Muhith.
The architect of the Bangladesh economy as it stands today, Muhith passed away at a city hospital in the small hours of Saturday. He was 88.
In her condolence message, the PM said that despite being a member of the Civil Service of Pakistan, Muhith joined the first government of Bangladesh in 1971. At the time, he was posted in the Pakistan Embassy in the US.

Independent Award winner will be remembered by all for his works,” Hasina said.
The PM prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
