Lightning kills 3 in Chapainawabganj
Three people, including two farmers, were killed in separate lightning strikes in Chapainawabganj’s Sadar, Gomostapur and Bholahat upazilas on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Omar Ali, 52, a farmer from Sadar upazila’s Jamtala area, Shariful Islam, 35, a resident of Gomostapur upazila’s Prosadpur area, and Anowar Hossain, 60, a farmer from Bholahat upazila’s Mushrivuja area.
Omar was killed as a streak of lightning hit him while working in a field, said Sadar upazila’s UNO Rowshan Ali.

Lightning kills 2 fishermen in Sunamganj
Two fishermen were killed by a lightning strike in Dharmapasha upazila of Sunamganj on Monday while fishing at Mugrain Haor in Sadar Union.
The deceased were identified as Manik Mia, 28, and Miyasha Mia, 30, residents of Janiyarchar of Sadar union in Bari upazila.
Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Dharmapasha Police Station, the two were struck by lightning while they were fishing in Haor in the early hours of Monday.
Later the locals recovered their bodies and brought them home.
Lightning strikes are one of the deadliest natural disasters in Bangladesh, claiming over 200 lives every year.

At least 216 people die every year on average in lightning strikes, more than by floods, cyclones and other calamities.
More than 70 percent of the total lightning strikes occur between April and June, say, experts.

Lightning kills 19-year-old in city
A 19-year-old youth died after being struck by lightning in the city's Kawla area of Dakshin Khan on Thursday, his family members said.
The deceased was identified as Md Rahat Ahmed Badhon, son of Md Nurunnabi from Cumilla.
According to the victim's brother Rakib, Rahat became unconscious while playing on a field near their house after a bolt of lightning struck him around 5.30pm.

Badhon was first taken to a local hospital and then transferred to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where he was declared dead on arrival around 8 pm, said Bacchu Mia, inspector in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
The body has been sent for an autopsy, he added.

Lightning kills 25-yr-old in Faridpur
A 25-year-old man who had come to his native village on Eid holidays, was killed after being struck by lightning in Faridpur early on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Rakibul Islam 25, son of Chiru Matubbor from South Gopalia village in Sonapur union of Saltha upazila. He worked with a private firm in capital Dhaka.
“He had come to his native village to celebrate Eid with his family. The tragedy occurred around 6.30am as Rakibul was going to the cow shed," said Khayruzzaman Babu, chairman of Sonapur UP.

On Tuesday, six people, including two teens, were killed and three others were injured in lightning strikes in Tangail, Brahmanbaria, Meherpur and Habiganj districts.
According to government data, lightning strikes — electric discharges between the atmosphere and the ground — have claimed about 2,800 lives in the past 11 years.
An approximate 200 people die every year in lightning strikes in Bangladesh, more than by floods, cyclones and other natural calamities, according to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.

Experts said about 70% of the total lightning strikes usually occur between April and June, and advise everyone to move with caution during this time.
