The interim government on Friday reacted to the statement issued by the Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), noting that it is "deeply disappointing" that it issued a public statement based on unverified social media posts, rather than verified facts. "Contrary to TIB’s recent statement — which unfortunately relies on inaccurate information — the Bangladesh delegation to the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) is not only significantly smaller than those of the Hasina era, but also far more focused, industrious, and results-driven," said Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam in a statement. TIB is a respected civil society organisation and a long-standing advocate for transparency, he said. The delegation's purpose is to represent the interests of Bangladesh and its people at the world’s most significant diplomatic gathering, where key global decisions are shaped. Over the past five days alone, members of the delegation have held at least a dozen high-level meetings, including bilateral engagements with more than six heads of state or government, Press Secretary Alam said. TIB has inaccurately claimed that the delegation exceeds 100 members. The actual number is 62 — only marginally higher than last year's 57, said the Press Secretary. "It is worth noting that last year’s figure did not account for six eminent politicians who traveled at the invitation of the Chief Adviser." Roughly a third of this year’s delegation comprises security personnel, who are essential to ensuring the safety of senior officials, including Professor Muhammad Yunus, amid credible threats from Awami League supporters, Alam said. Key issues Prof Yunus may raise in UNGA speech tonight Despite these measures, he said, the current team has been stretched, with many security officers working extended 16-hour shifts to provide adequate protection. The government acknowledges that questions may arise regarding the size of the delegation. However, Alam said, this year’s UNGA holds exceptional significance for Bangladesh. "At a time when various actors are engaged in deliberate efforts to destabilise the country — including a concerted campaign to misrepresent the July uprising — strong and proactive international engagement is not just strategic, but necessary." The press secretary said it is well documented that the Awami League and its allies are spending millions to fund a flood of misinformation about the Interim government and the July uprising -- and to lobby against Bangladesh's democratic transition, often with the tacit support of certain international quarters. This year’s delegation includes several individuals who will represent Bangladesh at the upcoming Rohingya Conference on September 30 — underscoring Dhaka’s continued leadership on one of the region’s most urgent humanitarian and security issues, he said. In addition, several advisers — though not part of the formal UNGA delegation — have travelled separately to engage with their global counterparts on matters of mutual concern, Alam said. Labour reforms crucial in attracting large-scale FDI to Bangladesh: Prof Yunus  Leaders of Bangladesh’s most popular political parties were also invited to participate, and a number of officials were assigned to support them, he said. 'This inclusive approach sends a clear and unequivocal message: Bangladesh is firmly committed to a peaceful, democratic transition," Alam said.

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday said China would give a  positive consideration to a host of important issues  raised by Bangladesh as he held bilateral talks with Bangladesh delegation led by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus. They included reduction of the interest rates on Chinese loans and cooperation on water resources management, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam told UNB, describing the talks between President Xi and Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus as a "hugely successful" bilateral meeting. Alam said the talks were "comprehensive, fruitful and constructive, marked by warmth". President Xi reiterated China's support to the Chief Adviser and the interim government, said the Press Secretary. "It was Prof Yunus's first bilateral foreign tour, and so far, it has been a "grand" success," Alam said. President Xi said China would encourage Chinese investment to Bangladesh and relocation of Chinese manufacturing enterprises to Bangladesh. President Xi spoke about his two tours to Bangladesh and said he studied microcredit when he was the governor of Fujian province, Alam said. The Chinese President also said he tried Bangladeshi mangoes and jackfruit. "They are delicious. Bangladesh is expected to export the two fruits to China in a big way in the coming months," Alam quoted President Xi as saying. Dr Yunus seeks FAO support to export fruits, farm products to China in large volume Dr Yunus and Chinese President Xi held bilateral talks at People's Great Hall and discussed bilateral, regional and global issues. They discussed ways to further strengthen the relations between the two countries and take it to a new height protecting Dhaka-Beijing’s mutual and strategic interests. Both sides discussed various strategic bilateral issues between Bangladesh and China, trade and investment growth, agriculture, infrastructure, support for renewable energy sectors, and resolving the Rohingya issue, as well as overall issues of mutual interest between the two countries, eyeing a new chapter in relations. At the meeting, Dr Yunus sought China's greater role in establishing peace, prosperity and stability for both nations. During the meeting, Dr Yunus expressed heartfelt greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping on behalf of Bangladesh and its people. Recalling his long relations with China, the Chief Adviser said he had an attachment with China in introducing Grameen Bank and social business there. During the meeting, he focused on Rohingya crisis, seeking China's strong role in safe and dignified return of Rohingyas to their home of origin in Myanmar. Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources; Road Transport and Bridges; and Railways Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Principal Coordinator on SDGs Affairs and Senior Secretary Lamiya Morshed, High Representative to Chief Adviser Khalilur Rahman, Bangladesh Ambassador to China Md Nazmul Islam and BIDA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik accompanied the Chief Adviser at the meeting, Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder told UNB. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen among others were part of the Chinese delegation. Bangladesh, China to sign key deals as Dr Yunus to meet Xi in Beijing on March 28 In the morning, Dr Yunus arrived at the Great Hall of China amid a static guard of honour. Dr Yunus arrived in Beijing on Thursday night to hold bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Vice Minister of China Sun Weidong warmly welcomed Dr Yunus upon his arrival at Beijing International Airport at around 10:20pm (China time) after approximately a four-hour journey by air from Qionghai Bo’ao International Airport. Kids also greeted him with flowers. The Chief Adviser spoke at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference and joined at least eight events, including bilateral meetings, Azad said. Dr Yunus is on a four-day visit to China through which he thinks the relationship between Bangladesh and China would further be deepened.  

A 25-member delegation from Bangladesh has begun a four day visit to the state of Assam. This visit has been arranged by the government of India as part of  Golden Jubilee of the Liberation War of Bangladesh, 50 years of India-Bangladesh ties, and as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav in India. The delegation comprises 15 valiant freedom fighters who were involved in the Liberation War in areas adjoining Assam. Besides the freedom fighters, six journalists and four youth representatives are also form part of the visiting team. During the visit, the Bangladesh delegation is to interact with senior constitutional functionaries of the Govt of Assam including the Chief Minister, and senior officials. The delegation will visit places of historical importance as well as cultural significance in Assam and in adjoining Meghalaya. This visit will also help deepen the strong people-to-people connect and to carry forward the legacy of the Liberation War.  This visit forms part of a bouquet of activities undertaken by India to commemorate and honour the gallant citizens of India and Bangladesh, who played a pivotal role in the Liberation War. This visit of Bangladesh delegation comes at the most opportune time as India honours its fallen brave-hearts as part of Swarnim Vijay Varsh as well as to celebrate 75 years of India’s independence and 50 years of Bangladesh’s Liberation.  

A 25-member Bangladesh delegation composed of freedom fighters, journalists and youth members commenced a four-day visit to Assam at the invitation of the government of India. The Bangladesh delegation is set to interact with senior government, military and paramilitary representatives from India. The visit is aimed at reliving moments of fighting the Liberation War together by both Bangladesh and India.   The visit is being undertaken as part of Golden Jubilee of Liberation War of 1971. The government of India is hosting a visit of 25-member Bangladesh delegation to the Indian State of Meghalaya - from May 9-12. The visit is part of the Golden Jubilee of 1971 Liberation War and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. This delegation comprises of 18 valiant freedom fighters who had trained in Meghalaya and fought the Liberation War in Sector 11. Besides the freedom fighters, the delegation consists of Bangladeshis from other professions including journalism.
