This year local administration has not fixed any schedule for harvesting mango. There will be no fixed time for plucking and marketing mangoes but those can be harvested only when they get matured, said Deputy Commissioner AKM Galiv Khan while speaking at a meeting on safe and chemical-free mango production and marketing held at his office on Wednesday. However, they have decided to take strict action if anyone tries to pluck and market immature mangoes. The meeting decided to conduct mobile court drives to check use of chemicals on mangoes and a monitoring team will be remain in force to ensure marketing of safe and chemical-free mangoes. According to the Department of Agriculture Extension, there are mango orchards on 37,588 hectares of land in the district and it set a target to produce 4,40,956 metric tonnes of mangoes.  

At least 20 people have been injured in a clash between two groups over mango plucking in Joka village of Magura's Sreepur upazila, police said on Friday. Of the injured, 17 have been admitted to Magura Sadar and Dariapur Hospital. Injured Sezan and his uncle Hashem Molla told UNB that Akher and his associates vandalised their houses and attacked 10 of their family members with sharp weapons. Of the injured, Shaheb Molla, 37, Chanchal Molla, 30, Mofiz Molla, 29, Arif Molla, 33, Shahid Molla, 25, Shohag, 45, Ariful Molla, 25, and Mala Begum have been admitted to Magura Sadar Hospital. Akher Sheikh, on the other hand, alleged that the other group members attacked them and ten of his men sustained injuries in the clash.
