Banganbandhu’s birth anniversary: 20 injured in Awami League’s infighting in Patuakhali
At least 20 people of the ruling Awami League (AL) were injured in a clash between two groups of ruling Awami League during celebration of the 103rd birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day here on Friday.
The injured were admitted to local hospitals. But their identities could not be known immediately.
Of them, Bauphal upazila unit AL General Secretary and Upazila Parishad Chairman Abdul Motaleb Hawlader was hospitalised at Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital with serious injury, hospital doctors said.
On the occasion of the Bangabandhu’s birthday, local,AL lawmaker ASM Feroz, Motaleb and district unit AL Joint General Secretary and Bauphal municipal Mayor Ziaul Hoque Jewel announced separate programmes.

Of them, Feroz and Motaleb called the programme at the same place and time.
A tense situation had been prevailing in the area over the matter for the last few days.
Auribindu, an upazila unit Juba League leader, told UNB that Motaleb and his followers brought out a celebratory procession around 11:00am.
Police obstructed the procession in front of upazila parishad gate when it was marching towards the party office, he said.

Suddenly, several hundred supporters of Faisal Ahmed Monir, nephew of the lawmaker and upazila unit AL President Feroz, attacked Motaleb and his men with sharp weapons when an altercation broke out between police and him, Auribindu said.
Law enforcers fired at least 7-8 rounds of rubber bullets to bring the situation under control, causing a panic among locals.
As of filing this report around 3:00pm, a tense situation has been prevailing in the area.
Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of Bauphal police station, said an additional number of police personnel have been deployed to ward off any unexpected incident further.
He said they were forced to fire the rubber bullets to disperse the infighting groups.
Md Al Amin, Bauphal upazila nirbahi officer, said both groups promised to hold their events in a peaceful manner but no one kept their words despite his request.
Clash between factions of AL in Laxmipur leaves teen dead
A 14-year-old boy was killed and 10 people were injured in a clash between two factions of Awami League over establishing supremacy at Charkasia village in Raipur upazila of Laxmipur district on Wednesday.
Russel Hossain, son of Manir Hossain Bhuttu of the village, was stabbed to death in a fierce clash between two rival factions of AL, said Mahfuzzaman Ashraf, officer-in-charge of Laxmipur police station.
Shahjalal Rahul, joint general secretary of Charbongshi union unit AL and Nazrul Islam, a member of the same AL unit had been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the area, he said.
As a sequel to the enmity, the supporters of both groups equipped with sharp weapons, attacked each other in Miarhat area in the morning, leaving Russel dead on the spot and 10 others wounded.
The injured were taken to Sadar Hospital.
On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control. They recovered the body from the spot.
Additional police have been deployed to avert further trouble.
Eden College: Probe finds no evidence of forcing students into immoral activities
The probe body formed to look into the recent clashes and various allegations on the Eden College campus did not find any evidence of forcing any students into indulging in ‘any immoral’ activities.
The four-member committee has already submitted a report, signed by Eden College principal professor Supriya Bhattacharjee, a press release said on Thursday.
“The report found no evidence of any student being forced into immoral activities,” it reads.
It, however, said the college authorities will take proper steps based on the probe report against recent clashes, alleged anomalies in seat distribution in exchange of money and other charges.

Supriya Bhattacharjee told UNB that they will submit the probe to the next academic council meeting, and final decisions will be taken there.
Earlier on September 25, the four-member inquiry committee was formed comprising of four senior teachers of Eden Mohila College--Prof Mohammad Ziaul Houqe, Prof Kazi Atikuzzaman, Prof Sufiya Akter and Prof Meherunnisa Meri--to investigate clashes on September 24 and 25 on the college campus and some other allegations.
During the clashes, some leaders accused Eden Mohila College Chhatra League top leaders of repressing and harassing general students in many ways and indulging in various crimes like extortion and forcing students into immoral acts.
On September 25, Bangladesh Chhatra League suspended all activities of its Eden Mohila College unit committee following infightings between its two groups which left at least eight people injured.
BCL also expelled 16 leaders and activists from the organisation for violating the rules.

The decision came after rival factions of Eden College BCL drove out both President Tamanna Jesmin Riva and general secretary Razia Sultana from the campus.
Earlier, on 22 September, BCL leader Jannatul Ferdous gave an interview to the media alleging various irregularities, extortion, illegal seat trading and hall occupation by the BCL president and general secretary.
Eden College BCL committee suspended after infighting
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has suspended all activities of its Eden Mohila College unit committee.
A press release was issued in this regard on Sunday signed by BCL central committee president Al Nahiyan Khan Joy and general secretary Lekhak Bhattacharya.
BCL also expelled 16 leaders and activists, including its college unit general secretary from the organisation for violating the rules, it added.
The decision came after rival factions of Eden College BCL drove out both president Tamanna Jesmin Riva and general secretary Razia Sultana from the campus.
On Sunday, there were infightings between the two groups which left at least eight people injured.
At least 15 injured in Chhatra League infighting at Dhaka College
A clash between two groups of Chhatra League at Dhaka College has left at least 15 students injured.
Students of North hostel and South Hostel of the college got involved in the clash around 9pm on Saturday.
A student named Al Amin of South Block of Dhaka College was beaten by some students of North Block inside the campus at 8:30 pm. Later, when the news spread in the campus, the two groups clashed using indigenous weapons, sticks, rods, and machetes.
Cocktail explosions and gunfire were also heard during the clash.
Witnesses said they heard at least three gunshots, and cocktails during the incident, although the college principal has denied this.

ASP withdrawn after cops charge baton on Barguna BCL activists
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Muharram Ali, who allegedly charged baton on the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) during an infighting in Barguna, has been withdrawn from his duties.
ASP Muharram Ali was attached to Barishal Range DIG office, said Barishal range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) SM Aktaruzzaman on Tuesday.
“This decision has been taken for fair investigation,” he added.
The DIG said the allegation against police in the incident will be investigated.

On Monday, at least 20 people were injured in the infighting between two factions of the BCL Barguna unit during a National Mourning Day discussion.
The groups got into a scuffle following a heated argument during the discussion.
At one stage, they started hurling brick chips at each other and vandalised a police vehicle, SM Tariqul Islam, additional superintendent of Barguna police, said. "Later police had to use batons to bring the situation under control."
"Two BCL activists were arrested from the spot, and several of them suffered injuries," Tariqul added.
Section 144 imposed in Barishal’s Hijla over fears of AL infighting
Local administration imposed Section 144, restricting freedom of assembly, at Harinathpur Gorur Hat area under Barishal’s Hijla upazila over fears of infighting between two rival groups of local AL on Friday.
Officer In-charge of Hijla police station Yunus Mia confirmed the matter on Friday night.
“Section 144 has been imposed as two rival groups of local AL have called for simultaneous programmes at the same place. The Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) has imposed the curfew from 10:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday,” said the OC.
Anwar Hossain Khan, President of Harinathpur union AL, called for the ward AL’s triennial conference at the Gorur Hat field, while Harinathpur union parishad Chairman and General Secretary of union AL Taufiqur Rahman Sikder has called for a meeting of the party activists at the same place.
“The upazila administration has imposed the section 144 to avert any untoward situation,” said Bokul Chandra Kabiraj, the UNO of Hijla.

BCL blockade halts classes, exams at CU
The overall activities of Chittagong University came to a halt on Wednesday as a faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) enforced a blockade from the morning following an infighting between its two factions.
Witnesses said a group of BCL men put the main gate of the university under lock and key and stopped the shuttle train services by placing logs on the rail tracks, causing sufferings to the students.
