Mashrafe, Mushfiq congratulate new T20 captain Sohan
Former national team captains Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Mushfiqur Rahim have congratulated Nurul Hasan Sohan on becoming Bangladesh's T20 captain for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Friday announced the squads for the tour where the Tigers will play a three-match T20I and three-match ODI series from July 30 to August 10.
Sohan replaced Mahmudullah Riyad as the T20 captain. Riyad had been leading the Tigers in T20s since February 2018. He failed to guide the team to T20 victories and could not perform well with the bat in the West Indies.
"Hard work is better than talent when talent refuses to work hard. Congratulations Quazi Nurul Hasan Sohan on becoming the captain of the Bangladesh T20 squad. Wish you all the luck," Mashrafe wrote on his social media profile.
"Congrats to Sohan on becoming the new T20I captain for the Zimbabwe series. The young team has my full support and I strongly believe this team will do well in the upcoming series," Mushfqiur wrote on his social media page.

Sohan regularly leads Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, a 50-over format event at the domestic level of Bangladesh.
In his first assignment as the captain of Bangladesh, Sohan will have to face a tough challenge. He will not get the services of Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Riyad and Mushfiq.
Tamim recently announced his retirement from T20s. Riyad, Shakib, and Mushfiq have been rested for the T20 series.
The Bangladesh team is set to travel to Zimbabwe on July 26.
The T20I series will begin on July 30. The last two matches of the series will take place on July 31 and August 2. The first ODI will be played on August 5, and the other two matches on August 7 and 10.
Mushfiq will be part of the ODI team.
The ODI series of this tour is not part of the ICC World Cup Super League.

Cricketer Mominul on verge of losing captaincy
Left-handed top-order batter Mominul Haque may lose the captaincy of the Bangladesh Test team. The batter has been failing to impress both as a captain and as the batter, and it cast a shadow over his captaincy future.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has recently asked Mominul to give a think about whether he wants to continue as the captain of the Bangladesh Test team.

“He needs to decide what is thebest for him,” Jalal Yunus, chairman of the cricket operation department of BCB, told the media recently. “When don’t get run as a captain and batter, the pressure gets heavier.”
Bangladesh failed to win any match in the recently-concluded two-match Test series against Sri Lanka at home. They ended the first match in a draw in Chattogram and in the second match, they endured a 10-wicket defeat in Dhaka.
This series was a part of the ongoing cycle of the ICC World Test Championship. After this recent failure, Mominul’s captaincy came under scrutiny once again.
However, Russell Domingo, the head coach of the national team, said that he would like to rely on Mominul’s captaincy more. But he agreed that Mominul has been out of the form for a while, and he has to work harder to get his old form back.
Mominul got only a fifty in his last 15 Test innings, and in 12 of those innings, he failed to reach a double-digit total.
Bangladesh played a total of 17 Tests under the captaincy of Mominul and won only three of them. Bangladesh lost 12 of the other matches with only two draws.
After the series against Sri Lanka, BCB president Nazmul Hasan had a meeting with Mominul. It was not clear what they have discussed in that meeting. But the inside sources of BCB told that the meeting was about the future of Mominul as Bangladesh’s Test captain.
Bangladesh’s next international assignment is in West Indies. The board has already announced the squads for this tour. Mominul is named the captain of the Test team.

But BCB might rethink this decision. Some TV reports suggested that the board might ask the start allrounder Shakib Al Hasan to take over the Test captaincy— who Mominul replaced in 2019 when Shakib was banned due to not reporting corrupt approaches made to him.
If Mominul remains the captain in the West Indies series, it would be an ordeal for him-- a failure will surely be enough to axe him from his position.
