WI vs BAN 1st Test 2022: Shakib-Nurul's record partnership help Bangladesh avoid innings defeat
Bangladesh were in danger of conceding an innings defeat in the WI vs BAN 1st Test 2022 after a horrible batting display in the first innings. They did, however, manage to come back in the second innings thanks to a record-breaking stand between captain Shakib Al Hasan and wicket-keeper batter Nurul Hasan Sohan for the seventh wicket. The visiting side were bowled out for 245 runs after giving the hosts an 84-run target to win the contest. Let’s take a look at the match scenario for the Bangladesh versus West Indies first Test 2022.
Bangladesh vs West Indies Test Series 2022: First Match Scenario
The West Indies lost three early wickets with only nine runs on the board. The pacer Khaled Ahmed came out with a lot of aggression and removed Kraigg Brathwaite, Rayman Reifer, and Nkrumah Bonner within the first four overs of the Windies innings. At that stage, the West Indies were in real trouble and Bangladesh's campaign was energized to put even more pressure on the Caribbean side.
An unbeaten fourth-wicket stand between John Campbell and Jermaine Blackwood helped the West Indies to calm things down. The Caribbean team finished day three with 49/3 on board. They only require 35 more runs to clinch the contest.

Earlier, West Indies could have finished the match on day 3 had they managed to bowl Bangladesh out for 161 runs. The Caribbean side had created that opportunity after sending six opposition batters for 109 runs. However, Bangladesh fought back brilliantly when Shakib Al Hasan and Nurul Hasan batted at the crease. They made 123 runs together in the seventh wicket and propelled Bangladesh to get past the 200-run barrier as well as avoid an embarrassing innings defeat.
Both Shakib Al Hasan and Nurul Hasan Sohan made fifty. Nurul was the top scorer with 64, while Shakib made 63. Nurul, in particular, had shown patience as he faced 147 deliveries in his innings. Shakib, on the other hand, was a bit aggressive in his approach.
When the Shakib-Sohan partnership was broken, Bangladesh were at 232. After that, Bangladesh lost wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for 245. Veteran pacer Kemar Roach was the most successful bowler for West Indies as he picked up five wickets in the second innings.
