TECNO CAMON 20 Review: Is it worth buying?
TECNO Mobile's dedication to delivering cost-effective devices while upholding impeccable quality has made them a favored choice among consumers. TECNO’s latest innovation Camon 20 has made its debut in Bangladesh recently. This smartphone boasts remarkable MediaTek chipsets and RGBW camera sensors. Let's take a look into the prime features, design, price, pros and cons of the TECNO Camon 20 phone.
Key features of the TECNO CAMON 20
Design
The Tecno Camon 20 showcases a distinct design that aligns with contemporary Android smartphones. Marketed as a puzzle deconstruction design, the handset draws inspiration from postmodern architecture. It features a textured leather back adorned with a unique pattern and a noticeable pentagon-shaped camera module. Despite the smartphone's plastic frame, this design choice effectively conceals fingerprints and smudges while exuding a luxurious aesthetic.
The device boasts flat edges rather than curved ones, enhancing comfort and grip during usage. You'll find the volume rocker and power button on the phone's right spine, while the bottom edge houses a USB Type-C port for charging, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a speaker grille. Additionally, another speaker is located on the top edge, providing stereo sound output. The left edge of the handset accommodates the SIM ejector tray, which conveniently includes a dedicated slot for a microSD card.

Display
The Tecno Camon 20 boasts a large 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 1080 x 2400 pixels resolution and a 20:9 aspect ratio, resulting in a pixel density of 395 ppi. This display offers a vivid viewing experience, perfect for activities like video watching, social media browsing, and gaming. With an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 87.0%, the display covers almost the entire front of the phone, leaving only a small punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera.
The Camon 20's 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display delivers vibrant and immersive visuals. It incorporates a 100% wide P3 Dot-in display, along with DC Dimming and 1920Hz PWM Dimming, providing users with a flicker-free viewing experience. Additionally, the display holds the TÜV Rheinland Low Blue light emission certification, ensuring eye protection, especially during extended usage.
Performance
The Tecno Camon 20 is equipped with the MediaTek MT6769Z Helio G85 processor, which utilizes a 12nm manufacturing process. This octa-core CPU configuration includes two high-performance Cortex-A75 cores operating at 2.0 GHz and six power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores running at 1.8 GHz. Tecno Camon 20 Pro Review: Can it fulfill the users’ expectations?
Tecno Smartphones has long been an outlier in the smartphone industry for its interesting approach to the market. While most brands focus on a mix of cost-cutting and functionality in their budget-friendly devices, Tecno Mobile aims to integrate an all-around premium experience under affordable price-ranges. In this legacy, Tecno has launched the Camon 20 Pro in Bangladesh recently. The device being a direct successor to the Camon 19 Pro brings a host of new features. Let’s find out the main features, pros, cons and price of Tecno Camon 20 Pro.
Key Specifications of Tecno Camon 20 Pro
Design and Build Quality
There has been a complete design overhaul of the Camon 20 Pro from its predecessor. While the 19 Pro had a much more toned-down traditional look, the 20 Pro feels like something straight out of Sci-Fi.
The camera module on the back is housed on a pentagonal base which is flush with the back panel. But that’s not all as the entire back panel now has a refractive geometric pattern which gives the device a contemporary abstract art-like look. It’s pretty obvious that Tecno meant this device to be used with the included clear case only.
Moving over to build quality, the device is an all-plastic build with a glass front. The display glass isn’t rated but it is supposed to be some older Gorilla Glass tech. The device has a 163.4 x 76.7 x 8.2 mm dimension which brings the weight to about 182 gm. It feels great in hand due to its uniform weight distribution and boxy design.

The volume rocker along with the power button is situated on the right of the device. The left side houses the micro SDXC and sim slot with the secondary mic on top. The primary speaker, Type C port, and the precious headphone jack are placed at the bottom. This year, the naming of the colorways has also been updated with Predawn Black and Serenity Blue.
Overall, the design took a long leap with the 20 Pro while the build quality remains satisfactory just like the 19 Pro.
The Display
For a lower mid-range device, the display spec of the Camon 20 Pro is quite surprising. Tecno managed to integrate the uniform bezel design for the Camon 20 Pro which until very recently was only seen on iPhones and high-end Androids.
The display itself is a 6.67 inches FHD+ AMOLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate. It’s a big jump considering the 19 Pro came with an IPS LCD panel. The uniform bezel design means the device now has an 85.7% screen-to-body ratio which is one of the highest in the Camon lineup.

The 1080P panel has a 395 ppi density making it a sharp and crisp display for all kinds of viewing situations. The stacked spec of the display doesn’t really translate much beyond paper. However, the viewing angles and everything are satisfactory. It's just that the colors on the display look a bit washed out and pale for an AMOLED panel. Users can tweak the display setting to opt for a warmer contrast. But out of the box, the experience might be lacking a bit.
The Camera
The Camon 20 Pro features a triple camera module set on two large circular housings. The top one houses the main 64 MP camera while the bottom one houses the 2 MP depth and a QVGA sensor. There is also the trademark ring LED flashlight right beside the sensors.
In essence, the main camera does all of the work as the depth and QVGA are good as nothing. In daylight, the pictures come out great with excellent details and good dynamic range occasionally. Users might notice exposure issues as the camera tries to process too much light in extremely bright outdoor shots. The issue is also persistent indoors as it overcompensates for low lights in this case.
The videography is rated at 1080P at 30fps but without any kind of stabilization support, it really isn’t worth shooting unless you have an external gimbal.

The front camera is a 32 MP shooter which does a decent job at capturing selfies. Overall, the camera experience on the Camon 20 Pro is average as there are better camera phones at this budget point.

Tecno Camon 19 Neo Review: Know its advantages, disadvantages
The story of Tecno is relatively new. The company was founded back in 2006. Over the last decade, the company has slowly established itself as a strong player in the budget and entry mid-range segment. The brand had widespread success in Africa followed by India and the rest of the sub-continent. The company also found prominence in Bangladesh with its budget and mid-range devices. Their latest mid-range offering, the Tecno Camon 19 Neo was launched on 14th June in Bangladesh. Here’s a detailed review of the price and key specs of the same.
Key Features of Tecno Camon 19 Neo
Design and Build Quality
Budget and mid-range devices are prone to frequent design changes. These changes are often a hit or miss with some working and others not. Tecno has completely overhauled the Camon 19 Neo from its predecessor, the Camon 18. While the previous model has a frosted singular back, the 19 Neo features a geometric color-shifting frost which definitely catches the eye. Be it indoors or outdoors, the light reflected on each of the indices brings out a unique look every time.
The changes aren’t just limited to the back. The camera module also had a complete revamp. The triple camera setup is positioned uniquely with one lens serving as the housing for two sensors.

The dual large lens along with the overall boxy shape gives a very iPhone-like look to the device. But being mid-range, the entire device is made from plastic both on the back and the frame. The ports and button selection are all as usual with the power button acting as the physical fingerprint sensor. The 3.5 mm headphone jack also survives with no sign of disappearing from the mid-range segment.
Overall, Tecno definitely got the design elements right with the Camon 19 Neo as it brings noticeable changes over the previous generation.
Display
The display of the Tecno Camon 19 Neo is an IPS LCD one. Devices like Samsung A03 Core, Redmi 10 2022, and Realme 9i all provide AMOLED panels within the same budget range. So, it’s a bit disappointing to see an LCD panel on a mid-range device.

The 6.8-inch large display comes with FHD+ resolution which is a saving grace for the device. The colors are generally vivid but the display doesn’t get very bright under direct sunlight. The blacks also don’t look as deep as AMOLED panels. Viewing angles are good so props for that. Overall, the display is passable at best. It's nothing stellar to be the main selling point for the device.
Camera
The triple camera setup on the Tecno Camon 19 Neo has a 48 MP main sensor with f/1.8 and a 26 mm wide lens. The other two accompanying sensors are a 2 MP depth sensor and a QVGA sensor. Needless to say, this is ultimately going to be a single sensor camera setup as the depth and QVGA sensors are basically useless.
The main camera with its 48 MP resolution does a decent job. Pictures look bright and sharp in outdoor and well-lit environments. There is a built-in portrait mode but the edge detection still isn’t up to the standard. It sometimes catches the edges perfectly but completely fails in others. The camera also fares well in dimly-lit conditions. But it does suffer from occasional underexposure.

The videography is limited to 1080P at 30 fps. While the sensor itself is capable of pushing the higher resolution, it gets limited due to the chipset.
There is also a 32 MP selfie shooter. Images looked great from the front camera but it definitely lacked the wide-angle view.
Processor and Performance
The Tecno Camon 19 Neo comes equipped with a MediaTek Helio G85 processor. It’s a 12 Nm processor built on octa-core 2 2.0 GHz Cortex-A75 and 6 1.8 GHz Cortex-A55 design. The G85 isn’t exactly an upper mid-range processor as it's more geared towards entry-level mid-range devices. For its price, Tecno could’ve at least gone for the G88 processor.

The Camon 19 Neo isn’t a performance-oriented phone. It’s perfect for light usage like browsing social media, the web, or watching YouTube. The processor can also handle lightweight games and graphics-intensive games at a moderate setup. We ran PUBG on the device and it performed well in low to middle graphics settings. But it also caused the device to significantly heat up.
But typical users shouldn’t worry as the device does a great job at heat management. The device also performs smoothly thanks to the RAM fusion option. In addition to the 6GB onboard RAM, users will be able to harness an extra 5GB of memory from the ROM taking the effective RAM count to 11 GB when necessary.
Like all other Tecno phones, users will be getting the HIOS 8.6 based on Android 12. Tecno still needs to address the bloatware issue to make it a smoother experience. while out of the box the device is smooth, but it will eventually slow down owing to the heavy skin on top of it.

Battery and Charge Time
The Tecno Camon 19 Neo comes with a 5000 mAh battery. The efficient design of the G85 will allow for 6 to 7 hours of continued usage on a single full charge. Tecno has also included an 18W fast charger which can top up the device in just over an hour.
Price of Tecno Camon 19 Neo
The Tecno Camon 19 Neo is officially available in Bangladesh in the 6GB/128GB variant. The price of the device is 18,490 BDT as of release.
Final Thoughts
The Tecno Camon 19 Neo is yet another Tecno device that has its fair share of drawbacks. Firstly, there are better specification mid-range devices in this price range. Devices that offer better features. Secondly, Tecno is still struggling with its camera performance and bloated OS. On the flip side, the brand did a great job with the design, build quality, and processor of the 19 Neo. It's definitely a step in the right direction, but Tecno has to do more to stay competitive in the mid-range market.
