Kushtia man sets himself on fire in Dhaka
A 45-year-old man sustained serious burn injuries after setting himself on fire in protest in front of the National Press Club Monday out of his frustration over a company's refusal to pay him Tk1.26 crore in dues, police said.
Kazi Anis, a contractor from Kushtia's Kumarkhali upazila, carried out the self-immolation protest at 5pm.
Journalists and law enforcers at the scene doused the fire by pouring water and rushed him to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in critical condition.
Anis suffered 85 percent burns to his body, Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost in-charge Bacchu Mia said.

Anis told the journalists that a company named Henolux owes him Tk1.26 crore, but refused to pay.
Earlier, he formed a human chain, demanding the dues, but to no avail. As Anis did not get his money back, he decided to end his life by setting himself on fire.
