Malaysian Athletics: Bangladesh's Al Amin wins gold in 3000m steeplechase
Bangladeshi athlete Al Amin clinched the gold medal in the 3000- metre steeplechase event of the Malaysian Invitational Open Athletics Championship 2024 held at the Stadium Darul Makmur in Pahang, Malaysia on Saturday.
Al Amin brought laurel for the country by winning the event's gold medal with a timing of 9:32.39 seconds.

Aminul Islam set to become first Bangladeshi professional boxer to compete in South Korea
Bangladesh is poised to make an indelible mark on the international boxing stage as Aminul Islam, a trailblazer from Xcel Sports Promotion, is set to participate in the “Rings of Champions” boxing event. This landmark engagement will take place at the prestigious Grand Swiss Hotel in Seoul on March 16, 2024, marking Aminul’s debut as the first Bangladeshi professional boxer to compete in South Korea.
Aminul Islam, a celebrated figure in professional boxing, is slated to face Dong Hoon Jang, South Korea’s leading Bantamweight boxer, in a highly anticipated match. Bangladesh's boxing sensation, Sura Krishna Chakma, clinched a decisive victory in the Lightweight division at the "Path to Glory: Hustle in Dhaka Square" event. Hosted in Banani, Dhaka, by Xcel Sports Management and Promotions in partnership with The Arena Promotions, the tournament featured 13 thrilling bouts across a variety of weight classes.
The event's standout moment came when Sura Krishna faced India's Sandeep Kumar in a riveting Lightweight bout. Employing strategic counterattacks, Sura Krishna secured his sixth consecutive professional boxing win, further solidifying his status as a top contender.
Another notable match saw Bangladeshi boxer Resatul Sajin draw against Malaysia's Daeloniel Mcdelon in the Featherweight category after six intense rounds, showcasing skillful performances that enthralled the crowd.

"The Bull" Al Amin delivered a technical knockout against Moksedul Rana in the Welterweight division, highlighting a night filled with competitive matches and showcasing the prowess of 26 boxers across various categories.
The event also featured victories for Easin against Rayhan, Rakib Ahmed in his Featherweight debut, Hossain in the Flyweight division, Sabbir Mehedi Hasan in the Light Heavyweight class, Hafijur in the Super Bantamweight division, and Lalkhawm Sang in the Super Lightweight category.
In the main card battles, Amranul Faisal and Aminul Islam both achieved technical knockout wins against their respective opponents, Atiq Hassan Riyad and Praggya Don. Meanwhile, Utshob Ahmed secured a win in the Bantamweight division, and Emon Tongchangya made a striking debut with a first-round technical knockout against Robiul in the Super Middleweight category.

Imranur Rahman makes career best timing of 10.11 seconds in 100-metre sprint
Athlete Imranur Rahman, an England-based Bangladesh-origin sprinter, made his career-best time of 10.11 seconds in the 100-metre sprint in an competition held in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London recently.
The Bangladesh Athletics Federation recognised the personal best timing of the England-based Bangladesh-origin sprinter as Bangladesh's national record as the meet was approved and accredited by the World Athletics.

Imranur's performance is officially ranked and will be attached to his and Bangladesh's official databases.
Earlier, Imranur clinched the historic gold medal, the first-ever by any Bangladeshi athlete at the Asian level, in the men's 60-metre sprint of the 10th Asian Indoor Athletics Championships held at the Kazakhstan capital Astana last February.
This was the first ever medal for any Bangladeshi athlete in an Asian-level athletics championship.

The 29-year-old sprinter clinched the country's dream gold by winning the men's 60-metre sprint title with a record time of 6.59 seconds.
Imranur, who appeared in the country's athletics last year, emerged as the country's fastest man with a national record in his maiden competition with timing of 10.29 seconds.

He further improved his record at the Asian Athletics Championship held in Bangkok in July this year with a time of 10.25 seconds in the 100-metre sprint.
Bangladesh is expecting a good result from Imranur in this month's Asian Games to be held in China.

Asian Archery: Bangladesh clinch bronze medal in men's recurve team event
Bangladesh team clinched bronze medal in the men's recurve team events of the 2023 Archery Asia Cup World Ranking Tournament, Stage -3 beating Australia by 5-4 sets in Singapore on Saturday (June 10, 2023).
Bangladesh recurve team consists of Sagor Islam, Hakim Ahmed Rubel and Ram Krishna Saha played 4-4 draw with their Australian rivals in the first stage.

Later in the tie breaker, Bangladesh beat Australia by 29-27 score to win the bronze medal.

A 15- member Bangladesh National Archery team participated in the Archery Asia Cup World Ranking Tournament, Stage-3 concluded on Saturday in Singapore.

Imranur conferred with country's first-ever gold at Asian-level athletics
Bangladesh's fastest man, the UK-based Bangladesh-origin sprinter Imranur Rahman on Sunday evening ceremonially received the country' s historic gold medal, first ever at Asian level from the men's 60-meter sprint of the 10th Asian Indoor Athletics Championships held at the Kazakhstan capital Astana.
This is the first ever medal for any Bangladeshi athlete at Asian level athletics competition
President of Asian Athletics Association Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad of Qatar handed over the glittering gold medal to Bangladeshi wonder boy Imranur Rahman at a medal distribution ceremony in Astana Sunday evening when the national flag of Bangladesh hoisted for the time in Asian meet and national anthem was also played.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Athletics Federation Advocate Abdur Rakib Montu, now in Kazakhstan as Bangladesh team leader, was also present on the occasion and confirmed it to UNB over phone Sunday evening.

Imranur Rahman, the two times fastest man of Bangladesh since his appearances in the country's athletics last year, brought laurel for the country within one year by clinching the 60- meter sprint gold medal in the Asian Indoor Athletics Championship in Astana Saturday night.
The 29-year-old sprinter Imranur Rahman clinched country's dream gold by winning the men's 60-meter sprint title with a record timing of 6.59 seconds.
Earlier, Imranur, took 6.70 seconds in the event's heats to qualify for the semifinals and made an improved timing of 6.61 seconds to move into the final as the second best on photo-finish behind a Qatari sprinter.
In the event's final on Saturday night, the Bangladesh wonder boy Imranur further improved his personal best timing of 6.59 seconds to win a surprise gold medal for the country.

Imranur's previous best timing of the event was 6.64 seconds, which he made in the World Indoor Athletics stage in Belgrade in 2022.
However, Bangladesh's fastest women's sprinter Shirin Akter was eliminated from the heats of the 60-meter sprint clocking 7.93 seconds.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, State Minister for Youth and Sports M Zahid Ahsan Russell MP, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister and Athletics Federation President M Tofazzel Hossain Miah and BOA President General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, in separate messages, congratulated Imranur Rahman for bring laurel for the country.

Sheikh Kamal inter-school and madrasah athletics begins Saturday
The first phase of the Sheikh Kamal Inter-School and Madrasah Athletics Competition 2023, the country's biggest athletics completion, organised by the Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF) will begin on Saturday at the upazila level.
Around 50 lakh promising athletes from all upazilas will compete in 32 events in four categories of the competition.
President of Bangladesh Athletics Federation and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina M Tofazzel Hossain Miah disclosed the details of the competition at a press conference in the capital Thursday evening.
In A and B groups, sixth and eighth-graders will compete in 100-metre, and 200-metre runs, high jump and long jump.
In C and D groups, ninth and tenth-graders will compete in 100-metre, 200-metre, 400-metre, 800-metre, 1500-metre runs, high jump, long jump, triple jump, javelin throw, shot put, discus throw and 4x100-metre relay race.
The inter-upazila level competition will be held during January 14-28, the district level competition during February 1-5, and the divisional level during February 9-13.
The final round of national level competition, featuring the winners of the divisional level, will be held later.

Bangabandhu National Athletics begins on Friday
The Bangabandhu 46th National Athletics Championship'2022, organised by Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF) begins on Friday (December 23) at the Bangladesh Army Stadium in Banani here.
The most attractive events of the meet --men's and women's 100-meter sprints--will be held at 4:30 and 4:45 pm respectively on the day.
The marathon race of the meet already completed Saturday ( Dec 17) morning marching with Bangabandhu Victory Day National Marathon.

Although the competition will begin Friday morning, but the BAF President and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Md. Tofazzel Hossain Miah will inaugurate the three-day meet in the afternoon at a simple ceremony to be chaired by BAF Vice President Nuruddin Chowdhury Nayan, MP.
Some 500 athletes from 64 districts, eight divisions, universities, education boards, BKSP, BJMC and other affiliated organizations are expected to compete in the 40 events of the meet--22 for the men and 18 for the women.
The organizer will award the top three athletes of all the 40 events of the meet with Tk 3,000 as first prize, Tk 2,000 as 2nd prize and Tk 1,000 as the 3rd prize.
Besides, the record holder athletes will be awarded with a prize money of Tk 5,000 each.
