74th birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal observed in Brunei Darussalam
The Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei organized a program to observe the 74th birth anniversary of Shaheed Capt. Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
At the outset, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Brunei Darussalam, Nahida Rahman Shumona paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and welcomed all the guests including Bangladeshi community members.
The program continued with recitation from the Holy Quran, and observing one minute silence in memory of Shaheed Capt. Sheikh Kamal.
All the officers and staff of the High Commission, and the Bangladeshi community members joined the Bangladesh High Commissioner when she paid rich tribute by placing floral wreath at the portrait of Shaheed Capt. Sheikh Kamal.

The Bangladesh High Commissioner read out a brief biography of Shaheed Capt. Shiekh Kamal and through a powerpoint presentation, vividly highlighted different phases and angles of the life of Shaheed Capt. Sheikh Kamal and touched upon nearly all of his remarkable qualities and achievements earned over a very short span of life.
The Bangladesh High Commissioner hailed Shaheed Capt. Sheikh Kamal as a man of many talents who not only excelled in sports including cricket, football, basketball etc., but also carved a niche for himself in the areas of music, theatre, debate, extempore speech etc.

His academic life from Shaheen School and Dhaka College to the University of Dhaka and his active involvement in Liberation War were also discussed by the High Commissioner.
A documentary made on Shaheed Capt. Sheikh Kamal was screened before the guests, which highlighted the various phases of his life, and his achievements and success stories that made his life so valuable, impactful, and inspiring.

In her closing remarks, the Bangladesh High Commissioner told in a melancholic tone that the unexpected and sad demise of Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal on 15 August 1975 deprived the nation of the benefits of the inimitable leadership traits of a person full of potential, vigor and robust humanism. She called upon all to be inspired by his life and to sincerely try to inculcate the qualities that made Shaheed Capt. Sheikh Kamal so special and distinctive.

Final round of Sheikh Kamal Inter-School and Madrasah Athletics Competition 2023 to start in Dhaka on Monday
The two-day final round of Sheikh Kamal Inter-School and Madrasah Athletics Competition 2023, featuring the winners of the divisional level, is going to start in Bangladesh Army Stadium in the capital on Monday.
The final round of the country’s biggest athletics competition, arranged by the Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF), will be inaugurated at 3:00pm on Monday in the stadium.
PM’s Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman Fazlur Rahman will be present in the inaugural event as the chief guest, while State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Zahid Ahsan Russel and Secretary General of Bangladesh Olympic Association Syed Shahed Reza will be there as special guests.
PM’s Principal Secretary and BAF President M Tofazzel Hossain Miah will preside over the inaugural ceremony.
The first phase of the countrywide athletics competition started in January last. Around 50 lakh promising athletes from all upazilas competed in 32 events in four categories of the competition.
In A and B groups, sixth and eighth-graders are competing in 100-metre, and 200-metre runs, high jump and long jump.
In C and D groups, ninth and tenth-graders are competing in 100-metre, 200-metre, 400-metre, 800-metre, 1500-metre runs, high jump, long jump, triple jump, javelin throw, shot put, discus throw and 4x100-metre relay race.
The inter-upazila level competition was held in January, while the district level competition and the divisional level in February last.

Sheikh Kamal 2nd Bangladesh Youth Games district phase begins in Chattogram
The second phase of the Sheikh Kamal 2nd Bangladesh Youth Games 2023 began Monday in the port city like elsewhere in the country.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy inaugurated the district-level round at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram in the morning. Former Chattogram City Corporation mayor AJM Nasir Uddin was also present.
Eight athletics events and a handball competition were held on the opening day.
Home team Chattogram beat Bandarban 27-22 in the final of the handball competition at the MA Aziz Stadium.

Around 700 boys and girls aged under 17, who qualified from the upazila-level, are competing in 10 disciplines of sports in the inter-district competitions, which will continue till January 22.
The final round of the Games will be held in Dhaka from February 26 to March 4.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the final phase of the meet on February 26 at the Army Stadium in Banani.
More than 50,000 athletes are competing in 24 disciplines of sports this year, with the new inclusion of cycling, gymnastics and rugby.

In 2018, around 50,000 athletes took part in the first Youth Games in 21 disciplines of sports.

Sheikh Kamal inter-school and madrasah athletics begins Saturday
The first phase of the Sheikh Kamal Inter-School and Madrasah Athletics Competition 2023, the country's biggest athletics completion, organised by the Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF) will begin on Saturday at the upazila level.
Around 50 lakh promising athletes from all upazilas will compete in 32 events in four categories of the competition.
President of Bangladesh Athletics Federation and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina M Tofazzel Hossain Miah disclosed the details of the competition at a press conference in the capital Thursday evening.
In A and B groups, sixth and eighth-graders will compete in 100-metre, and 200-metre runs, high jump and long jump.
In C and D groups, ninth and tenth-graders will compete in 100-metre, 200-metre, 400-metre, 800-metre, 1500-metre runs, high jump, long jump, triple jump, javelin throw, shot put, discus throw and 4x100-metre relay race.
The inter-upazila level competition will be held during January 14-28, the district level competition during February 1-5, and the divisional level during February 9-13.
The final round of national level competition, featuring the winners of the divisional level, will be held later.

Bangladesh Mission in New Delhi pays homage to Sheikh Kamal
Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Friday paid homage to valiant freedom fighter Captain Sheikh Kamal on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
The 73rd birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal was observed in a befitting manner.
Acting High Commissioner Md. Nural Islam led the officers and staff of the mission in laying a floral wreath at the portrait of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal to pay homage.
He presided over a discussion on the life and work of Sheikh Kamal at the chancery’s Bangabandhu conference hall.
Minister (Press) Shaban Mahmood read out the message of President Md. Abdul Hamid and Mohd. Rashedul Amin, Minister (Economy) read out Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s message.
Selim Md. Jahangir, Minister (Consular) at the mission also spoke.

Sheikh Kamal's 73rd birth anniversary observed in Washington DC
The 73rd birth anniversary of valiant freedom fighter Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal was observed at Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC on Friday in a befitting manner.
The Embassy organised different programs at the Bangabandhu auditorium to commemorate outstanding contributions of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal to the fields of sports and culture of the country alongside development of the society and nation.
The programmes began with reading out of messages from the President and Prime Minister.
Minister (Economic) Md Mahadee Hassan and Minister (Political) Dewan Ali Ashraf read out the messages.
Later, a discussion session was held.
Taking part in the discussion, Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States M Shahidul Islam recalled Shaheed Sheikh Kamal's outstanding contributions to the great Liberation War, rebuilding the war-ravaged Bangladesh and the development of sports and culture after independence, said a media release.
Ambassador Islam said Sheikh Kamal possessed multidimensional talents and was a role model for the youthfolk.
Shaheed Sheikh Kamal's contributions to sports, music, drama and other fields will be remembered forever in the country's history, he continued.

Ambassador Islam hoped that the country's young generation would take sports and cultural arenas to the highest peak of the success by following the ideology of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal.

Counsellor and Head of Chancery Md Mahmudul Islam conducted the programmes.
After the discussion, a documentary on the life and works of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal was screened.
A special prayer was offered, seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Sheikh Kamal, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangamata Fazilatun Nesa Mujib, their family members, and others martyred on the fateful night of 15 August 1975.
Earlier, the Ambassador placed a floral wreath at the portrait of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal to pay his homage.
Officers of the Embassy were present on the occasion.

MoFA marks Sheikh Kamal's 73rd birth anniversary
Dhaka, Aug 5 (UNB) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Friday arranged a discussion, marking the 73rd birth anniversary of Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman joined the discussion as the chief guest. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam chaired the event at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, who is in Cambodia on an official visit, sent a video message on the occasion.

Bangladesh would benefit if Sheikh Kamal was alive today: Hasan Mahmud
Bangladesh would have been benefited if Sheikh Kamal was alive, said Information Minister Hasan Mahmud on Friday.
The minister said this after paying homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara in Gopalganj marking Sheikh Kamal's 73rd birth anniversary today, according to a press release.
He said Sheikh Kamal will remain alive among the people for ages, as long as Bangladesh exists, through his actions during his short span of life.
“With his talent and organisational skills, I think Bangladesh would have benefited more,” he added.

Sheikh Kamal could have played a great role in the country's culture and sports arena, above all in leading Bangladesh, said Hasan and prayed for eternal peace of his departed soul.
Earlier in the day, Hasan paid tribute by placing wreaths at the portrait of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal at Abahani field in Dhaka.
Kamal fell to bullets when disgruntled forces assassinated Bangabandhu along with most members of the family of the architect of Bangladesh on August 15, 1975 at his 32 Dhanmandi residence.

Photo exhibition begins in London marking birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal
A weeklong photo exhibition has begun at Bangladesh High Commission in London marking the 72nd birth anniversary of valiant freedom fighter Captain Sheikh Kamal.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Zahid Ahsan Russel inaugurated the exhibition that will remain open for all till August 13. He also joined the virtual discussion held on Thursday.

Bangladesh High Commissioner Saida Muna Tasneem presided over the function titled “Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal: Remembering a Valiant Freedom Fighter.”
Bangladeshi-born British writer, journalist, columnist, political analyst and poet Abdul Gaffar Choudhury, among others, spoke.
They paid homage to valiant freedom fighter Captain Sheikh Kamal who was assassinated along with Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most members of his family on the brutal night of August 15 in 1975.
The speakers highlighted the life and work of Sheikh Kamal and recalled his exceptional capacity to organize sports, art and music after the 1971 War of Liberation.
