Pre-poll violence leaves 3 injured in Ctg
At least three people sustained injuries on Thursday in a clash between supporters of two chairman candidates of Khagaria Union Parishad election in Satkania upazila of Chattogram.
The clash broke out between the supporters of Aeami League nominated candidate Aktar Hossain and independent candidate Jashim Uddin around 12:30 pm at Jorarkul area, said Md Shibli Noman, Additional Superintendent of Police in Satkania circle.

“Already a team of police has been sent to the area. The number of injured may increase,” he said.
On Wednesday 18 chairman candidates of Khagaria UP polls in Satkania upazila were expelled from South District AL for going against the party’s decision.

Seventh phase UP polls in 16 Unions in Satkania upazila are set to be held on February 7.

Missing freedom fighter found dead in Chattogram
An 80-year-old freedom fighter, who went missing a couple of days ago, was found dead in the bamboo bushes near his house in the Jangal Paduar area of Lohagrara upazila on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Meghnath Dey, son of late Anand Mohan.

His body was spotted by passersby in the bamboo bushes of the Baroi Para canal in Jangal Paduar around 9 pm on Tuesday, police said on Wednesday.
The deceased’s wife said that Meghnath frequently left home without informing the family members but would return after a couple of days.

“However, when I heard about a body being found in the bamboo bushes, I rushed to the spot and identified it. We feel devastated," she said.
ASP Zakaria Rahman Ziku of Satkania Circle said that the body was sent to the morgue of Chattogram Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy. "We will initiate action only after the post-mortem report."

Lockdown: Satkania UNO made OSD for fining a doctor on emergency call
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Chattogram’s Satkania has been made an officer on special duty (OSD) after he fined a doctor who was going to see a patient during the lockdown.
On Sunday, UNO Nazrul Islam was made OSD to the Ministry of Public Administration over the order of KM Al-Amin, deputy secretary of the ministry.
Earlier on Friday, UNO Nazrul Islam imposed a fine of Tk 1,000 on Dr. Farhad Kabir who was on his way to his private chamber to check an emergency patient.

At that time, the UNO also threatened to jail the doctor.
Later the doctor made a Facebook post over the issue.
As the issue came up in a number of newspapers, the Bangladesh Medical Association leaders demanded the intervention of the civil surgeon on the allegation of harassing the doctors.

Later, UNO Nazrul Islam of Satkania was made OSD.
However, Nazrul denied the allegations when contacted.

Police arrested a man claiming to be a ‘maulana’ or Islamic scholar from Satkania upazila on Tuesday night in a case filed under the Digital Security Act.
