Death toll from Karatoya trawler capsize stands at 36
The death toll from the trawler capsize in the Karatoya River rose to 36 as 11 more bodies were retrieved from the river in Boda upazila of Panchagarh Monday.
One of the deceased was identified as Kabita Rani, 50. The identities of the others could not be confirmed yet.
The deceased included 16 women and seven children, said SM Sirajul Huda, superintendent of Panchagarh Police
Divers from three firefighting units recovered seven bodies from different spots of the river from 6am today, said Deputy Assistant Director of Panchagarh Fire Service and Civil Defence Sheikh Mohammad Mahabubul Islam.

On Sunday, the overloaded trawler carrying 60-70 passengers, mostly Hindu devotees, sank in the middle of the river while heading towards Badheshwar Temple on the occasion of Mayalaya around 2:30pm.
Twenty five bodies were recovered from the river on that day while many others managed to swim ashore.
The search operation to trace the missing ones is underway.

President's condolences for victims of boat sinking in Panchagarh, AL leader of Mithamoin
President Abdul Hamid on Sunday expressed deep condolences over the boat sinking incident in Panchagarh's Karotoa.
The President prayed for forgiveness and peace for the souls of those killed in the accident and speedy recovery to the injured.
Alongside, Hamid expressed deep grief over the death of Md Abdur Rahman, a prominent Awami League leader of Mithamoin,the birthplace of President Mithamin.
Abdur Rahman passed away at his residence last night at 2:30 pm due to old age.
He was 95 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by numerous devotees including two sons.

In a condolence message, the President said that the late Abdur Rahman served as the president of the Awami League in the former Mithamain Sadar Union for a long time. As a dedicated worker of Awami League, he has played a significant role in strengthening the organization in the area. His death is an irreparable loss to local politics.
The President sought forgiveness for the late Abdur Rahman's soul and expressed his deepest condolences to his bereaved family.

Karatoya trawler tragedy: Death toll rises to 25
The death toll from the trawler capsize in the River Karatoya rose to 25 on Sunday with the recovery of one more body from the river, police said.
Fifteen bodies were recovered earlier in the day after the engine-run trawler packed with 60-70 passengers capsized in Karatoya in Boda upazila. Eight children and 12 women were among the dead.
As the search for the missing continued, divers from the fire service and local people fished out nine more bodies from the river around 3:30pm, SM Sirajul Huda, superintendent of Panchagarh Police, said.
The identities of the deceased could not immediately be confirmed. Of the 24 victims, 22 were Hindus.
Police suspect that at least 10 people remain missing from the trawler capsize. The search for the missing was underway. Many swam to safety.
The trawler carrying 60-70 passengers, including women and children, sank in the middle of the river while heading towards Badheshwar Temple on the occasion of Mayalaya around 2:30pm, Sirajul said.
Divers from three firefighting units were conducting rescue operations till the filing of this report around 8pm.
Zahurul Islam, deputy commissioner, said Tk1 lakh will be given to the families of the deceased and Tk20,000 will be provided for cremation.
