East West University (EWU) has organised a condolence meeting and doa mahfil in memory of its late chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Syed Manzur Elahi, who passed away on March 12 at the age of 83. The programmes were held at the Manzur Elahi Auditorium of the university on Tuesday. Family members of the late Syed Manzur Elahi, EWU vice chancellor; Pro-VC, treasurer, deans, faculty members; officials; staff; students of the university; and distinguished guests from various sectors of the country attended the condolence meeting. They shared heartfelt tributes to the deceased and prayed for the peace of his soul. EDU Chief Adviser Prof Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, also a close friend of the late Elahi, shared precious memories from their 60 years of friendship. He spoke about Manzur Elahi’s various social service activities and mentioned that he conducted his business by strictly adhering to laws and ensuring worker satisfaction. Apex Group chairman Manzur Elahi dies Farashuddin added that Manzur Elahi never took advantage of political affiliations, even when he served as an adviser to the caretaker government twice. He also suggested that the interim government should honour the “Sadhinota Padak” award to a distinguished person like Manzur Elahi. In his speech, Syed Nasim Manzur, son of the late Syed Manzur Elahi, shared that his father was concerned about the students from low-income families studying at East West University and had instructed to give them special importance. EWU VC Professor Dr Shams Rahman, Dean of the Liberal Arts and Social Science Faculty, the registrar, and administrative officials of EWU shared their memories of the late Manzur Elahi on the occasion. They offered special prayers for the peaceful repose of the departed soul.

The orientation programme for the newly admitted students for the Spring Semester 2024 of the East West University (EWU) was held in the EWU campus, Aftabnagar in the capital on Thursday. According to a press release, approximately 1600 students were admitted to undergraduate and graduate programmes in the 13 different departments this semester. Each Department of the EWU arranged individual programmes for their newly admitted students. Speakers welcomed the freshers to the EWU campus and encouraged them to try to work harder and be future leaders of the country. JnU to organise 3-day theatre festival from January 28 Along with academic education, they also urged the newly admitted students to make the best use of university resources such as clubs, libraries, research laboratories, and take the opportunity to develop human qualities and innovative abilities.

The Department of English of East West University (EWU) recently won the cultural competition of the 8th Inter-University Student Conference and Cultural Competition 2022. Hosted by ULAB's English and humanities department from October 20-21, 17 public and private universities competed in this year's edition of the conference. The inter-university student conference and cultural competition explored different facets of conflict and avenues for conflict resolution within topics in literature, language, linguistics, cultural studies, communication studies, translation studies, and digital humanities. Nine universities competed in the cultural competition. EWU defeated DU, AIUB, NSU, UITS, SUST, CU, SUB, and the host ULAB. EWU won the same competition for the second time after six years.
