Netherlands defeat South Africa, turning BD v PAK into virtual quarter-final
The Netherlands have shocked South Africa in the teams’ last Super 12s fixture of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 in Adelaide, winning by 13 runs to turn the next match between Bangladesh and Pakistan into a virtual quarter-final.
Whoever wins this game between Bangladesh and Pakistan, also to be played at the Adelaide Oval (at 10 a.m. BDT), will qualify for the semifinals with India from Group 2. Earlier, England and New Zealand advanced to the semi-finals from Group 1.

Netherlands beat South Africa for the first time across any format. Put in to bat first, the Dutch posted a respectable 158/4 off their 20 overs before restricting their opponents to 145/8. Colin Ackerman was adjudged man of the match for his innings of 41 off 26 balls that helped accelerate the Netherlands’ innings.
South Africa could have ensured qualification with a victory, but now ends on 5 points. It means whoever wins the game between Bangladesh and Pakistan, who are both on 4 points, will leapfrog them in the table to 6 points and qualify for the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2022. In that perspective, the BAN vs PAK match at the Adelaide Oval has practically become a do-or-die contest, or, in other words, a knockout contest.
