Indy Cup Football: Bashundhara Kings clinch title beating Sheikh Russell KC in penalty shootout
Star studded Bashundhara Kings clinched the Independent Cup Football crown for the 3rd time beating former champions Sheikh Russell KC by 4-2 in a penalty shootout at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla Monday afternoon.
The final match of the season's curtain raiser soccer meet, the Bashundhara Group Independence Cup 2022 between two former champions was locked at 2-2 in the stipulated 90 minutes.
Mayor of the Cumilla City Corporation Arfanul Haque Rifat and BFF Vice President M Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan Manik witnessed the day's final and distributed the trophies.
Rakib Hossain of Bashundhara Kings was adjudged the best player, Dorielton Gome of the same team named as the highest scorer, Kings custodian Anisur Rahman named as the best player of the final while Dhaka Abahani Limited named as the most disciplined team to receive the "Fair play trophy"
All the four goals of the final were scored in the first half.
Brazilian medio Miguel Ferreira scored first for the Kings in the very first minute of the match (1-0) while Nigerian striker Mfon Sunday Udoh leveled the margin for Sheikh Russel KC in the 12th minute (1-1).
Ivory Coast midfielder Charles Didier put Sheikh Russel KC ahead from behind in the 32nd minute (2-1) while Brazilian forward cum Kings captain Robson Robinho neutralized the margin in the 45th minute of the match (2-2).
In the day's title deciding penalty shootout, Bashundhara Kings beat Sheikh Russel KC by 4-2 goals to win the tournament's title after the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. Dhaka Abahani Limited won the Independence title in the 2021-22 season.Earlier, last time champions Dhaka Abahani Limited finished 3rd in the tournament beating Bangladesh Police FC by 4-2 goals in a place-deciding match at the Bir Shrestha Fl Lt Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj on Sunday.

Indy Cup Football: Sheikh Russel emerge group champions beating Mohammedan
Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra emerged Group A champions to reach the quarter final of the season's curtain raiser soocer meet, the Bashundhara Group Independent Cup Football' 2022 beating Dhaka Mohammedan SC by 3-0 goals in the last group match at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj on Monday.
With the day's well merited victory, Sheikh Russel KC clinched the Group A title with unbeaten record securing seven points from all the three group encounters while the traditional black and while Dhaka Mohammedan also qualified for the quarterfinal as the Group A runners-up, collecting six points from three outings.
This was the first defeat for Mohammedan SC in the tourney after two consecutive wins--against Bangladesh Navy by 2-0 goals and Fortis SC by 3-1 goals while it was the 2nd successive win for Sheikh Russel KC after beating Bangladesh Navy by 2-0 goals in the previous match following their 1-1 draw with Fortis FC in the first match.
In the day's match, medio Brossou scored first for the Sheikh Russel KC in the very 2nd minute of the match (1-0), forward Mohammad Ibrahim doubled the margin in the 51st minute (2-0) while Nigerian striker Sunday Udoh sealed the fate of the match scoring the 3rd goal for the winners in the 59th minute (3-0).
In the day's other match, coming from behind, Fortis Football Academy tasted first victory in their 3rd match defeating all-losers Bangladesh Navy by 3-1 goals at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla Monday afternoon.
Afghan striker Amiruddin Sharifi struck twice in the 17th and 44th minutes while Brazilion player Luis Carlos netted the other goal for Fortis FC in the 61st minute.
Forward Shakawat Hossain scored the lone goal for the sailors' team in the very 7th minute of the match.

Indy Cup Football: Navy reach final round eliminating Army
Bangladesh Navy reached the final round of the Independence Cup Football 2022, eliminating Bangladesh Army by 4-3 in a tie breaker at the Bir Shreshta Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj on Sunday.
The last qualifying round match between two teams was locked at 2-2 goals in the stipulated period.
In the scheduled time,Mizanur put Bangladesh Army ahead in the 27th minute (1-0) while Habibur leveled the margin for the sailors team in the 36th minute (1-1).
Bangladesh Army again took lead in the stoppage time of the first half (45+3 minute) by a goal from Morsalin (2-1) while Raja again neutralized the margin in the 75th minute (2-2).
The 16-team final round of the meet will be held on November 13 to December 5 at three venues across the country--Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium in Gopalganj, Bir Shreshta Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj and Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla.
Dhaka Mohammedan SC will play Bangladesh Navy in the inaugural match on November 13 in Munshiganj while Sheikh Russel KC will encounter Fortis Football Club in the other opening day's fixture in Cumilla.
Participating teams are: Group A - Dhaka Mohammedan SC, Sheikh Russel KC, Fortis Football Club and Bangladesh Navy
Group B- Bashundhara Kings, Chittagong Abahani, Azampur Football Club and Youngmens' Club Fakirerpool.
Group C- Dhaka Abahani Limited, Muktijoddha Sangsad KC, Uttara Football Club and Bangladesh Air Force
Group D- Sheikh Jamal DC, Bangladesh Police FC, Rahmatganj MFS and BFF Elite Football Academy.
