Eight Chapai policemen penalised after a detained AL leader was grabbed from custody
Authorities have transferred officer-in-charge (OC) of Chapainawabganj’s Gomostapur police station and punished seven other cops after a detained Awami League leader was snatched away from police custody.
Superintendent of Police Rezaul Karim confirmed the matter saying that the seven cops were taken off duty attached to District Police Lines last night.
However, it could be known where OC Shahidul Islam was transferred.
The policemen have been accused of negligence in performing duty.

Seven plainclothes policemen arrested AL leader Mintu Rahman, president of the ward No-2 of the upazila’s Bangabari union on Thursday evening.
A Chapainawabganj court issued an arrest warrant for him earlier.
As he was being driven to the police station, his supporters allegedly swooped on the police team in Santoshpur Bazar leaving five cops injured, they said.
Sub Inspector Mamun filed a case with the police station in this connection while 13 accused have so far been arrested.

AL leader arrested in city over murder during mass upsurge
Police arrested an Awami League leader on Monday night in connection with the killing of Faizul Islam Rajon during the mass uprising in Mirpur.
The arrestee was Mohammad Shah Alam, AL joint secretary of Ward No. 93 of Mirpur.

A case was filed at the Mirpur Model Police Station on August 16, following Rajon's murder at Mirpur-10.
According to the case details, on July 19, Awami League leaders and activists opened fire indiscriminately on students and others protesting in front of the Mirpur-10 fire service station as part of the movement, leaving Rajon wounded. He was declared dead at Dr. Azmal Hospital.

Tofail now stable after hospitalisation
The health condition of veteran politician Tofail Ahmed, undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital in India's Gurgaon, is now stable.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to New Delhi Muhammad Imran Friday met with him and talked about his health condition.
"His [Tofail Ahmed] health condition is stable now. He is now doing fine," Shaban Mahmood, Minister (Press) at Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi told UNB.

Tofail is undergoing treatment under Dr Arun Garg, head of the neurology department of Medanta Multi Super Specialty Hospital in Gurgaon, Haryana.

The senior Awami League leader served as the minister of commerce and minister of industries.

AL leader occupies government land in Faridpur
A local Awami League leader has been accused of occupying government land at the dead of night at Boalmari Upazila in Faridpur.
The leader is identified as Mizanur Rahman. He is the general secretary of Rupapat Union Awami League of the upazila and lecturer of Salthar Navkam Palli University College.
A written complaint signed by nine people, including Emdadul Haque Milon, a resident of Kalinagar village in the upazila, was lodged with the Boalmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer on Saturday (April 17) morning.
According to the complaint, Mizanur and his men occupied government land on the bank of the Kumar River.
Around 10% of the said land was owned by Water Development Board. They cordoned the land off by putting up bamboo walls around it.
The market value of the occupied land is Tk 30 lakh.
The accused Mizanur Rahman denied occupying the land in illegal means. He said that he can provide legal documents to back his claim.
Boalmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jhotan Chanda said, “I have received a written complaint of occupation of government land. In this regard, the Rupapat Union Land Officer has been instructed to go to the spot and take actions accordingly."
