Law enforcement agencies certainly cannot avoid their responsibility in the escape of two convicted militants from police custody, Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of Rab’s legal and media wing, said on Monday. The Rab commander said this while responding to questions from reporters at the Rab media centre in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar. Read: Militants flee Dhaka Court: Red Alert issued, says Home Minister It would have been possible for the law enforcers to take action or prevent the escape if they had received information from the intelligence agencies earlier. “That’s why law enforcers cannot avoid responsibility.” Asked whether the two militants have already left the country, Moin said that he cannot say anything about that right now. “We are examining the CCTV footage of their movement at various places,” he added. They also tried to snatch two other accused, Arafat and Sabur, but failed. Police filed a case against 20 people in this connection.

A Dhaka court on Thursday placed 10 members of Ansar-al-Islam, accused in a case over snatching of two convicted militants from police custody, on a five-day fresh remand. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin passed the order after investigation officer of the case and  Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Inspector Muhammad Abul Kalam Azad sought a 10-day remand producing the accused before the court. Those remanded are Shahin Alam alias Kamal, Shah Alam alias Salauddin, BM Mojibur Rahman, Suman Hossain Patwary, Arafat Rahman, Khairul Islam alias Sifat, Mozammel Hossain, Sheikh Abdullah, Abdur Sabur, and Rashidunnabi Bhuiyan. They also tried to snatch two other accused Arafat and Sabur but failed. Later police arrested the two accused from the court premises. The Security Services Division of the Home Ministry has formed a four-member committee to probe the escaping of two death row convicts, also members of banned militant group Ansar al-Islam, from the premises of a Dhaka court on Sunday. The ministry issued a notification in this regard on Sunday (November 20). Publisher Dipan, son of Prof Abul Kashem Fazlul Huq of Dhaka University, was hacked to death in his office on the second floor of Aziz Supermarket at Shahbagh in Dhaka on October 31, 2015.
