Khulna sees surge of 24,860 voters
Khulna district has witnessed a surge of 24, 860 voters compared to the past year, totaling 2,058,293 voters, according to a draft voter list published by the Election Commission (EC).
The EC made it public on January 2 this year, showing 1,033,447 male and 1,024,827 female voters respectively.
Moreover, the list includes 19 transgender voters in the district, consisting of nine upazilas and seven police stations.
The draft voter list shows the highest 3, 081 voters increased in Dumuria upazila, totaling 2, 76, 395 voters.
In Sadar police station, the number of voters went up by 2,253 to reach 186,326.
In Koyra upazila, there has been a slight increase in male voters compared to female voters, with a total of 2,192 new voters, standing at 182,973 in total.
Sonadanga police station sees an increase of 1, 714 voters, totaling 139,140 voters; Khalishpur police station, where voter numbers have grown by 1,563, reaching 129,885; and Phultala, where an increase of 1,575 voters brings the total to 122,117.

Voter numbers in Paikgacha, Batiaghata, Dakop, Rupsa, Terokhada, and Dighalia have also seen steady increases, with some areas such as Paikgacha registering a rise of 2,191 voters, bringing the total voter count to 234,062.
In Daulatpur, 1,193 new voters have been added, raising the total voters to 87,527.
Sources at the district election office said that after the central publication of the draft list, the field offices of the EC made the updated lists.
Following this, people can file claims, objections, or requests for corrections at the concerned upazilas by January 17 and their applications will be resolved by January 30. The final voter list will be published on March 2.
According to district election officials, the process for finalising the voter list will continue until March 2. The Commission is also considering collecting citizen data for voter list updates through door-to-door visits starting January 20, although a final decision on this plan is yet to be made.
The last year’s previous voter list had a total of 2,033,433 voters in Khulna, including 1,019,364 male, 1,014,052 female voters, and 17 third-gender ones.

Khulna District Election Officer Farazi Benjire Ahmed told UNB that the draft voter list has already been published and the process of collecting citizen data for voter list updates will begin on January 20.

Some 1.8 million new voters added to draft voter list: EC
Some 1.8 million new voters have been included in the draft electoral rolls published by the Election Commission on Thursday, raising the total number of voters in the country to 123.7 million.
Election Commissioner Brig Gen (Retd) Abdul Fazal Md Sanaullah unveiled the updated draft voter list at a press conference here in the city.
Among the 1,833,352 newly registered voters, 1,185,516 males, 647,774 females and 62 transgender persons were included in the draft list.
The Election Commission will release the final updated electoral rolls on March 02, 2025 (the voter day) after resolving complaints on the draft list, if any.

With the inclusion of the new voters, the total number of the country's voters would be 123,683,512.
Among them, 63,330,103 are males, 60,352,515 are females and 994 are transgender persons.
The previous final voter list, published on March 2, 2024, recorded a total of 121,850,160 (121.8 million) voters, including 62,144,587 males, 59,704,641 females and 932 transgender persons in the country.

As per the Voter List Act, 2009 the EC needs to publish the draft voter list annually on January 2 to receive and settle complaints and the final electoral rolls on March 02 each year.
About the draft voter lists, any claim, objection or application for correction can be placed till January 17 next. Then the commission will resolve the objections or applications by January 30.
Besides, the Election Commission will start the door-to-door data collection campaign on January 20 next to update the voter lists further ahead of the next national election.

EC starts receiving applications for settling objections to draft voter list
The Election Commission on Monday started receiving applications for settling the objections to the draft of the updated voter list .
The Commission informed that they will receive applications till January 31 andsettle the objections within February 7.

The total number of voters in the country is now over 11.50 crore as the Election Commission on Sunday released a draft of the updated voter list with 57.74 lakh new voters.
The total number of voters in the final voter list published on March 2 last year was 11,32,87,010 which has increased to 11,90,61,158 this year.
The total voter growth rate this time stands at 5.10 percent.
In a letter sent by the Election Commission to the field level officials on December 11 last, everyone was instructed to send the draft list on January 15. Every year the draft list is published on January 2 but this time it did not happen.
There is a provision to update the voter list from January 2 to March 2 as per the voter list rules, EC officials said.

According to the provision, the final list is published on March 2 after settling the objections to the draft list.
This time, the release of the draft voter list has been delayed, but the schedule of the final list will remain unchanged.

EC: Updated draft voter list to be published on Jan 15
The Election Commission will publish the draft of an updated voter list on January 15.
According to a letter sent to all election officers at local level on Monday, the date has been delayed 13 days from the usual date of January 2 for publishing the voter list.
The letter signed by Assistant Secretary of Election Commissioner Md Mosharraf Hossain, said the upazila level election officers will publish the voter list of respective areas on January 15.
The decision of renewing the voter list was taken immediately after Kazi Habibul Awal was appointed as Chief Election Commissioner on February 26 this year.

After 2019, the updating of voters’ lists began this year by collecting information from every house for three weeks. Inclusion of new voters, exclusion of deceased and transferring those who changed location was done during the process.
Information of those who were born before January 1, 2007, and are eligible to become voters was collected.
After that photo, fingerprint and iris identification information were collected at designated registration centers.

After resolving the objections about the draft list the final list will be published in March next year and the enlisted voters will be eligible to vote for 12th parliamentary election.
Currently there are 11,32,87,010 voters in the country and of them 5,76,89,529 are men 5,55,97,027 women and 454 are transgender.
