Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro has adapted this time Carlo Collodi's famous 1883 Italian novel The Adventures of Pinocchio. Matthew Robbins and Del Toro himself jointly rewrote the 1930 story of the renowned character. Toro then turned their story into a screenplay, collaborating with Patrick McHale.
Mark Gustafson teamed up with del Toro to direct the film with stop-motion animation based on Grease Grimley's designs for the 2002 version of Pinocchio. The animated characters in the musical film are voiced by Ewan McGregor, Gregory Mann, David Bradley, Bern Gorman, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Finn Wolfhard, Tim Blake Nelson, Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton, and Christoph Waltz.
