Lifer gets 7-yr jail for threatening to kill imam
The life term convict Shafiur Rahman Farabi in blogger Avijit Roy murder case was on Monday sentenced a seven year imprisonment in another case over the threats to kill the Imam who conducted namaz-e-Janaza of blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider around nine years back.
The court of Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge AM Julfiqar Hyat also fined him Tk 20,000, in default of which he will have to suffer six more months’ jail, lawyer Nazrul Islam Shamim, public prosecutor of the court, said.
According to the case statement, Physics department student Farabi of Chittagong University uploaded a Facebook post threatening to kill the Imam who conducted the Janaza of the blogger Rajib, also an activist of Shahbagh movement staged demanding justice of war criminals, in 2013.
Farabi, who joined the banned Hizbut Tahrir in 2010 when he was a varsity student, was accused in a case filed for his post on July 23 in 2014, at Sher-E-Bangla Nagar police station in the capital.
Law enforcers pressed chargesheet accusing him on August 20, 2015.

Later on February 18 2016, a court framed charges against Farabi, who was arrested as suspect from the capital’s Jatrabari area on March 2 in 2015 in blogger Avijit murder case and later convicted.
After completing all legal procedures in the case, the court handed down the judgment in presence of Farabi on Monday.
