Freedom fighter tied to tree, tortured over land dispute in Ctg
A freedom fighter was tied to a tree and tortured allegedly by his neighbors over a land dispute in Hathazari upazila of Chattogram.
The attackers ransacked freedom fighter Ahmed Hossain’s house and later built a boundary wall on his land.
Police have arrested Ahmed’s neighour Nahida Sultana in this connection. Her husband Lokman, and other main accused went into hiding.
After a video on his torture caused a stir in social media, police and the UNO of Hathazari upazila went to the victim’s house.

Shahidul Islam, the UNO of Hathajari upazila, said, “Upon receiving information, I, along with police officers and other freedom fighters, went to the spot. The boundary wall was demolished at my command.”

Ruhul Amin Sabuj, officer-in-charge of Hathajari Model police station, said a case was filed.
“We detained the main accused’s wife. Steps are being taken to detain Lokman and his cohorts,” he said.

13-year-old boy tied to tree, tortured to death in Cox’s Bazar: One held
A 13-year-old teenage boy was tortured to death after being tied to a tree over a trifling matter in Eidgaon upazila of Cox’s Bazar district on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Sazzad, son of Nurul Huda of Uttar Sat Jhulakata village in the upazila.
Mahfuzul Islam, superintendent of Cox’s Bazar Police, said a complaint has been lodged with Eidgaon Police.
Police registered a murder case following the complaint later.
Police also arrested Mohammad Alam, the prime accused in the case in the small hours of Monday. The others accused were identified as Abdus Salam alias Tuilla, 55, son of Saber Ahmed, Minuara Begum, 40, wife of Abdus Salam and Nurul Azim alias Kalu, 15, son of Abdus Salam.
Sazzad had a quarrel with the son of Alam and he tortured Sazzad over the issue, he said. “However, police are investigating the incident.”

According to the complaint, a group of miscreants dragged and picked up Sazzad to East Isakhali village from in front of a tea shop around 3 pm on Saturday.
Later, a group of musclemen led by Alam, 30, beat Sazzad up mercilessly after tying him up to a betel-nut tree.
When Sazzad became unconscious, they left him abandoned, assuming that he was dead.
On information, Sazzad’s father Nurul rescued him and gave him first aid. After seeing the deteriorated condition of Sazzad, they took him to Eidgaon Medical Hospital where the doctors declared him dead at 6 pm on Sunday.
Police sent the body to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Efforts are on to arrest other culprits, said SP Mahfuzul.

Boy tied to tree, tortured in Lalmonirhat; one held
Police on Sunday (April 10) arrested a man for tying an adolescent to a tree and torturing him on suspension of stealing betel nuts from a tree at Harati union of Lalmonirhat.
The detainee was identified as Dilip Chandra, 35, and the victim named Ayon Chandra, 13, son of Mintu Chandra of Dakkhin Harati village under sadar upazila.
Locals said betel nut tree owner Priyo Nath Roy and his son Robin Chandra Roy tied Ayon to a tree and beat him up mercilessly leaving him seriously sick. At one stage, locals rescued the boy and admitted him to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital.

A video of the boy’s torture went viral on social media Facebook which received widespread criticism from the people.
The victim’s father Mintu Chandra filed a case with the police station in this connection. Police, later in a drive, claimed to have arrested Dilip Chandra, an accused of the case.
Meanwhile, police superintendent Abida Sultana and sadar upazila chairman Kamruzzaman Sujan visited the tortured boy and assured the boy’s family of justice.

Shah Alam, officer-in-charge of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station, said police has nabbed one person in this connection and efforts are on to catch the other accused.

Two men were arrested from Gaibandha’s Sundarganj upazila on Sunday night for tying a schoolboy to a tree and torturing him on charges of theft at Dhumaitari village.
