Vivo recently announced their lower mid-range device Vivo Y28 4G for the Bangladeshi market. The device was on pre-booking from 4th to 9th July with official delivery starting on 10th July 2024. The Y28 brings an exciting new design among a host of other improvements. But is it enough to justify the price? Let’s find out.  Key Specs of Vivo Y28 4G   Design and Build Quality  The design of the Y28 is a complete overhaul of the traditional Y series. The device is made of plastic all around but the frosted composite plastic sheet on the back and the accented chromed frames give it a premium look. The rounded square camera housing and the ring light also add a premium feel to the device.  The dimension of the Y 28 comes in at 165.70 mm by 76.00 mm by 7.99 mm for the Agate Green variant and 165.70 mm by 76.00 mm by 8.09 mm for the Gleaming Orange option. However, the lack of a secondary noise cancellation mic at this price point is disappointing.  The power button on the Y28 doubles as the fingerprint scanner. The device also has an IP64 water and dust rating for accidental splashes. The Display  The display on the Y28 is a 6.68-inch IPS LCD panel with a 90 Hz refresh rate and 1000 nits of peak brightness. It’s a surprising choice to go with an LCD panel especially when most alternatives at this price come with an AMOLED panel.  The display has a 1608 by 720 pixels resolution with 264 ppi density. The display has an 83% NTSC color saturation for a vibrant and crisp contrast. It’s also TUV Rheinland certified for Low Blue Light technology. It has good colors, great viewing angles, and a high refresh rate. However, the lower resolution might be a deal breaker for many especially considering the price.  The Camera  There’s a dual camera setup on the Y28. The main camera is a 50 MP f/1.8 shooter and the secondary one is a 2 MP f/2.4 sensor. The front camera is an 8 MP f/2.05 shooter.  The camera system on the Y28 is the same as the Y27 with some lateral developments. The performance of the camera can be best described as a mixed-bag experience.  Pictures taken in daylight had a neutral tone to them. It's different from the usual mid-range cameras where there is a pop of color and social-media-ready processing. Instead, the pictures are more suited for those who like to edit their pictures. Portrait pictures came out well on the Y28. However, the background blue may feel a bit artificial at times. There were some exposure issues here and there. Other than that, the cameras produced decent results.  The videography on the Y28 is rated at 1080P at 30 fps. However, without any external stabilization, the videos are barely usable at best.  Processor and Performance  The processor on the Y28 is Helio G85 based on a 12 Nm architecture. The chip design consists of 2 x 2 GHz & 6 x 1.8 GHz processors. The G85 at this point is several years old and is more suited for a sub-15 K budget smartphone.  The RAM capacity ranges from 6 to 8 GB. Starting from 128GB the memory reaches up to 256GB featuring eMMC5.1 technology. The maximum limit of its expandable storage is 1TB. In the test, games like PUBG and Free Fire stuttered in the highest settings. Even with reduced graphics, there were frame drops here and there.  What we liked is the 300% surround sound stereo speakers. It performed pretty well even in near-highest volume settings without any distortions.  Benchmark  Antutu V9: 217448 PCMark: 11655Geekbench 5: 353 (single core); 1311 (multi-core). Software  The software on Y28 is the Funtouch OS 14 based on Android 14. Funtouch hasn’t changed any of its design language from last year with the same animations and bloatware. The large battery capacity easily makes for a day's usage on a full charge. It has a great design and a good battery life. But that’s about it when it comes to its strengths. The 720P display, entry-level processor, and camera don’t add much value. Released in December 2023 in China the phone also made its debut in Bangladesh on 14 February 2024. With its modern features, the C67 promises to redefine what users can expect from an affordable smartphone. Let's take a look into the key specs, pros, cons, and price of realme C67 in Bangladesh. Ever since its inception in 2013, Honor maintained a track record of producing affordable, value-for-money smartphones that disrupted the entry-level to mid-range smartphone market. While it was initially a subsidiary of Huawei, Honor is now owned by a state-owned enterprise under the control of the Shenzhen municipal government. Earlier this year, Honor released the X8a on 11th February 2023 in the global market. Let’s find out the key specs, pros, cons and price of Honor X8a.  Key Features of Honor X8a   Design and Build Quality  There isn’t much going on with the design of the Honor X8a given that it's a budget-friendly smartphone. Users will be getting a plastic device with a glass front. The frame and the back of the device have a matte finish which gives it a stealthy look. The rounded square camera housing and the punch-hole display with a minimal bottom bezel render an overall minimal look to the device.  Dimension-wise, the device comes in at 162.9 mm by 74.5 mm by 7.48 mm with 179 g weight. There is also a small Honor branding on the back bottom of the device. The narrow chin at the bottom allows for an 89.6% screen-to-body ratio.  The fingerprint scanner and the power button are positioned in their usual place. The power button also doubles as the fingerprint scanner on the X8a. This device doesn’t have a micro SDXC slot. It also lacks the 3.5 mm headphone jack.  Overall, the design and the build quality of the X8a are nothing out of the ordinary.  The Display  The display on the Honor X8a is a 6.7-inch LTPS LCD panel with a 90 Hz refresh rate. The unusual 19.9:9 aspect ratio has 2388 by 1080 pixels with 391 ppi density. The content on the display looks relatively sharp with standard color balance. Its outdoor visibility feature lacks dedicated HBM.  The Camera  The main selling point of the Honor X8a is its 100 MP main camera with f/1.9 aperture. To be fair, the 100 MP resolution brings increased sharpness and overall great contrast to the images. The subject in focus had great details with the right amount of background separation. However, it somewhat lacked in terms of dynamic range. It asserts the fact that only megapixel count isn’t enough, the quality of the sensor also matters. Regardless, the pictures taken with the main camera in daylight came out pretty well.  The sensor struggled a bit in low light conditions There were noticeable exposure issues here and there at times. The main camera is accompanied by a 5 MP f/2.2 ultrawide shooter and a 2 MP f/2.4 macro shooter. The ultrawide sensor can take some decent shots during the daytime but its performance significantly drops in low-light conditions. Videography on the Honor X8a is limited to 1080p at 30 fps. The realme C55 is a budget-friendly smartphone offering satisfactory camera performance, a unique design, and decent overall functionality. Key Features of realme C55 Design The realme C55 is a smartphone that boasts a 6.7-inch display with a screen protector applied during manufacturing, which is a nice added feature considering its affordable price range. The back of the phone is made of plastic, which tends to accumulate dust quickly and feels slippery. The phone's left side has only the SIM tray and the punching hole, while the right side has the Power button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner and the Volume rocker. Although it lacks Gorilla Glass for display protection and dust or water resistance, the realme C55's design gives an impression of a more expensive smartphone. Display The display of the realme smartphone is an economy model and uses a conventional IPS LCD. However, the 6.72-inch display is average, and the colors are easy on the eye. The IPS screen is even better than some newer models in 2023, except for the white color slightly darkening when tilted. The screen's peak brightness is 680 nits, which is enough to use the phone outdoors on a sunny day. Interestingly, the minimum brightness is only 2 nits, making it perfect for nighttime use without disturbing others. The screen refresh rate is 90Hz, with three operating modes to choose from: standard 60Hz, 90Hz, and auto mode. However, the auto mode tends to use 60Hz more often, conserving battery life. The screen options include light/dark themes, screen color mode selection, vision protection, auto-rotate, auto-off, refresh rate selection, display/hide front camera cutout, and full-screen mode for non-optimized apps. Camera The realme C55 smartphone, despite being a budget device, manages to exceed expectations with its camera setup. It features a 64-megapixel primary rear camera and a 2-megapixel sensor. It also offers an 8MP selfie camera. Both the primary rear sensor and the front sensor perform well under broad daylight. Switching to the 64 MP mode, there is a slight improvement in capturing details, which may not be noticeable at first glance but is apparent upon closer inspection.
