Analysis of the Bangladesh Squad for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024
Bangladesh have been quite late to announce the squad compared to the other teams. It implies that the selectors had some doubts over 2-3 players for this time.
Bangladesh would be very dependent on the bowling unit this time as they are the most in-form department in the team. Taskin Ahmed, with his new vice-captain duty, is supposed to lead the attack along with Shoriful Islam and Mustafizur Rahman. The inclusion of Tanzim Hasan gives new dynamics to the pace attack. It is reported that there was a competition between him and Mohammad Saifuddin in the team for a spot. However, the long break from international cricket and the last game against Zimbabwe didn’t help Saifuddin’s cause for breaking into the World Cup squad this time.
The spin attack would be led by Shakib Al Hasan who showed his guile in the last two games against Zimbabwe. Along with him Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, and Tanvir Islam were selected making the most dynamic spin attack Bangladesh ever had. This unit comprises all of the Left-arm orthodox, Right-arm off-spinner, and Right-arm leg-spinner. Mahmudullah Riyad can do a good job as a part-timer too.
As the top order is not very dependable, the Bangladesh team would mostly depend on the middle order for runs. This unit consists of the vast experience of Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad. At the same time, it consists of fresh bloods like Tawhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali Anik. It makes an interesting combination of the calm and bold batters for a middle-order.
The top-order is the most worrisome part in this squad with batters misfiring quite often. Tanzid Tamim has scored two half-centuries in his first 5 matches which is a breath of fresh air. But Litton Das, Soumya Sarkar, and skipper Nazmul Hossain Shanto are struggling for runs. This is especially concerning considering Litton and Shanto were the best performers from Bangladesh’s last ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Key Players for Bangladesh Squad
Shakib Al Hasan
Shakib Al Hasan will always be the most important player for Bangladesh cricket as long as he stays. He is the highest wicket-taker and 8th-highest run-scorer in the history of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He has been the most key player for Bangladesh whenever the team plays and he will be this time sure. Although his batting is a concern, fans can hope for him to figure it out.
Mahmudullah Riyad
A rejuvenated Mahmudullah Riyad will be the key player to hold the batting unit together this time. He is one of the most in-form batters for Bangladesh right now scoring two half-centuries this year with an average of 71.5. He has reshaped the middle-order for the Bangladesh team and the team will expect him to play a big role this time.
Taskin Ahmed
The new vice-captain of Bangladesh cricket will lead the bowling attack, especially the pace attack of the team. He was the player of the series in Bangladesh’s recent series against Zimbabwe where he picked 8 wickets. He has an injury problem which might see him on the sidelines for some games. But whenever he is on the field, he is the biggest asset for the team.
Nazmul Hossain Shanto
The misfiring skipper has a huge role of leading the team from the front. He could only score 81 runs in the series against Zimbabwe which is not a good sign. However, Bangladesh won two games in the last ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Shanto scored 71(55) and 25(20) in those games. Also, he scored half-centuries in both the wins of Bangladesh at the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. It shows that he has to play a big role for Bangladesh to win. This time is not supposed to be any different either.

Verdict
Bangladesh have picked up a quite dynamic bowling unit for both the pace and spin department. They have a good combination of youth and experience in the middle order as well. However, the top order does not convince most of the fans. It would be interesting to see how far the Tigers go being in the group of the death in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Bottom Line
So far, we have reviewed the Bangladesh men’s national cricket team’s performance for 2023. It is clear that 2023 cannot be tagged as a successful year for Bangladesh cricket. Inconsistency and lack of proper planning was the main reason for the failure.
This year a lot of newcomers were given opportunities to show their potential. Many of them showed their talent which is a good sign, since senior players may not play for long and have to rely heavily on the new players to deliver goods. Hopefully, Bangladesh will learn from their mistakes and overcome the shortcoming in 2024.

ICC World Cup 2023 Semifinal: Preview of India vs New Zealand ODI
India and New Zealand are set to face off in the first semifinal of the ICC World Cup 2023 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 15 at 2:30 pm Bangladesh time. Led by Rohit Sharma, India secured the top spot by winning eight consecutive games. On the other hand, New Zealand earned a spot in the top four with five wins in nine matches. Ahead of the big match, let's review the condition of each team.
Preview of IND vs NZ ODI in the 2023 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup
India headed to the semifinal with great confidence as they won three consecutive matches against Sri Lanka, South Africa, and the Netherlands this month. In all three matches, they batted first and emerged victorious. In their previous encounter with New Zealand, India won the match while batting second.
India
In the midst of all the surprises and upsets that the 2023 ODI World Cup has delivered, one consistent factor stands out—India's unquestionable dominance throughout the tournament.
India has three of the top eight run-scorers in the 2023 Cricket World Cup. The former captain, Virat Kohli, leads the charts with 594 runs in nine innings, followed by current captain Rohit Sharma with 503 runs and batter Shreyas Iyer with 421 runs, both in nine innings each. This collective dominance is quite significant.
Furthermore, India has three bowlers among the top eight wicket-takers in the tournament. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah leads with 17 wickets in nine innings, followed by fellow fast bowler Mohammed Shami with 16 wickets in five innings, and spinner Ravindra Jadeja with 16 wickets in nine innings. Mohammed Siraj is a bit further down the list with 12 wickets in nine innings.
Having won the Cricket World Cup twice, with the last victory in 2011, India is currently unbeaten at home and has several star players in excellent form. However, Hardik Pandya's absence from the squad could prove to be a significant factor for India, given that he was not only one of their key players but also served as the team's vice-captain. With Suryakumar Yadav taking his place at number 5 in the batting lineup, India has been playing with just five bowlers ever since Pandya was sidelined.
Shubman Gill's comeback after recovering from dengue has led to him consistently opening the batting alongside Sharma since the match against Pakistan on October 14. And getting Shubman regularly in the team is a plus point for India.

New Zealand
New Zealand should be thankful for securing four wins relatively early in their World Cup campaign, as they later experienced four consecutive defeats. However, a late victory over Sri Lanka pushed them into the semifinal stage of the tournament against the clear favorites for the title.
Opener Rachin Ravindra and all-rounder Daryl Mitchell stand out as the top run-scorers for the Black Caps at the 2023 Cricket World Cup. Ravindra has accumulated 565 runs in nine innings, whereas Mitchell has notched up 418 runs in eight innings, registering three centuries in this tournament. The return to fitness of captain Kane Williamson is also a significant boost for the team.
New Zealand's standout wicket-takers in this tournament are spinner Mitchell Santner and fast bowler Trent Boult, who have collectively taken 29 wickets. Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has contributed with 10 wickets. The absence of fiery Matt Henry, who took 11 wickets before leaving the tournament due to injury, is a potential concern.
Despite being finalists in 2019 and 2015, New Zealand has never won the Cricket World Cup. As they aim for a third successive final, their recent bilateral ODI series record against India is not impressive. However, in a major tournament, a single win can correct past shortcomings.
